Full Job Description
Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP (BCLP), a top Am Law 100 firm, is seeking a highly motivated and well-qualified associate with four to six years of experience to join its nationally recognized Restructuring & Insolvency team in Dallas. The practice advises lenders, creditors, debtors, investors, sponsors, fiduciaries, and other stakeholders in complex restructuring, bankruptcy, insolvency, distressed investment, and special situations matters across a broad range of industries. The position offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated domestic and cross-border engagements, including Chapter 11 proceedings, out-of-court restructurings, distressed asset acquisitions and dispositions, financing transactions, and commercial litigation arising from financially distressed situations.

Qualified candidates will have substantial experience representing clients in restructuring, bankruptcy, insolvency, creditors' rights, or related finance and litigation matters. Successful candidates should demonstrate strong analytical, drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills, sound business judgment, and the ability to manage significant responsibility while working collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Candidates should be comfortable handling complex matters involving distressed companies, lenders, investors, and other stakeholders both in and out of court.

You'll be responsible for:
  • Commercial Chapter 11 proceedings, including pleadings, motions, objections, discovery, and court appearances;
  • Debtor, creditor, lender, purchaser, sponsor, or fiduciary representations in restructuring and insolvency matters;
  • Out-of-court workouts, restructurings, forbearance arrangements, and loan modifications;
  • Distressed acquisitions and dispositions, including Section 363 sales, Article 9 sales, and assignments for the benefit of creditors;
  • Debtor-in-possession financings, cash collateral matters, and analysis of loan and perfection documents;
  • Commercial loan enforcement litigation, adversary proceedings, receiverships, and other contested insolvency-related disputes;
  • Real estate workouts, foreclosures, deeds in lieu of foreclosure, and distressed real estate transactions; and
  • Cross-border restructuring and insolvency matters, including Chapter 15 proceedings.

Skills and experience required:
  • A J.D. from an accredited law school and strong academic credentials;
  • Admission to the Texas Bar or eligibility to become admitted promptly;
  • Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, negotiation, and advocacy skills;
  • Experience managing significant components of complex matters with increasing levels of responsibility;
  • The ability to effectively interface with clients, opposing counsel, financial advisors, and other transaction parties;
  • Strong business judgment and a practical, solutions-oriented approach to client service;
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment; and
