Mgr. System Operations Quality Control Salary range: $128,950 - $167,640

Overview

The Manager, System Operations Quality Control provides management supervision and leadership for a staff focused on overall system operations internal controls and process development. This department is responsible for overseeing processes, procedures and practices related to compliance with system operations requirements and standards. This group works closely with the SPP Compliance department and the system operations management team to identify and implement risk mitigation strategies to assist in compliance and quality control efforts. The Manager, System Operations Quality Control, also has responsibilities that are shared and coordinated with the entire system operations management team. These shared responsibilities include establishing and implementing strategic business unit plans for the Quality Control department that align with the system operations Vision, the SPP Strategic Plan and the SPP Business Model. The System Operations Manager is expected to implement tactical processes within their department to achieve desired results according to the defined strategy. The Manager of System Operations Quality Control discusses development plans with their direct reports and manages individual performance through real-time coaching and periodic performance reviews.

Core Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership, management and technical direction to the Quality Control section of the system operations department with minimal supervision and with specific responsibilities for fostering leadership within this group.
  • Define goals, objectives, and action plans for the Quality Control department and assume responsibility for the success of these initiatives.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor mitigation strategies for compliance gaps, audit findings, and operational risks.
  • Create and facilitate the system operations compliance risk assessment process, including reporting and oversight of remediation efforts within operations.
  • Manage all official procedures across Operations, including operator desk procedures and NERC-mandated documentation.
  • Actively conduct periodic reviews of specific compliance activities within system operations, thus evidencing compliance with required standards and controls.
  • Identify and implement compensating controls to reduce risk of non-compliance.
  • Coordinate and prepare for audits and certifications
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships, communication, and contact with staff members as well as applicable external parties
  • Work to ensure operations staff compliance with and the enforcement of SPP policies and procedures


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering, computer science, business administration or related field (additional related experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirement)
  • 10 years of combined experience related to System Operations Management, Business Process Improvement or NERC compliance


Other Requirements:
  • Communication skills and directive ability to deal on a regular basis with management level personnel as well as with regulators
  • The exercise of independent judgment without fear of reprisal
  • Extensive contact and work with departments throughout the organization, as well as with members, auditors and regulators of the company
  • A wide range of skills including: oral and written communications; staff supervision; project management; and strong inter-personal skill
  • Flexibility and the ability to function with constantly changing and multiple priorities
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Understanding of, compliance with and enforcement of SPP Policies and Procedures

Position Type, Location, and Expected Hours of Work:
  • This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Little Rock, Arkansas, with a minimum requirement of two days per week in the office. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional extended hours as needed.
