SMS is seeking a seeking a strategic and technically astute Electronics Commodity Manager I to manage complex procurement activities, driving strategic supplier partnerships to secure high-quality electronic components at competitive costs. In this high-level role, you will leverage your deep expertise in electronic components (semiconductors, electromechanical parts) to secure strategic partnerships, optimize costs, and mitigate risks in a highly dynamic market.

The ideal candidate blends technical knowledge of electronic components with expert-level negotiation, ERP proficiency, and proactive supply chain management to support production requirements and new product introductions. This role will lead initiatives supporting SMS programs in Direct procurements.
This position is category-specific, focused on Electronic Components, and will also leverage general strategic sourcing knowledge to apply best practices across key areas of spend.

This candidate will support internal customers on assigned projects by participating on project teams to ensure that BAE Systems is leveraging its spend, effectively utilizing resources, driving to best value and improving overall supplier performance for the SMS sector.

In addition, this role may be required to conduct pre-legal reviews of contractual language and make recommendations to ensure BAE Systems terms and conditions are met and liability is limited.
The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution - from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the-art manufacturing and test operations and top-notch facilities management.

What You'll Do:
  • Manage team members who perform all tasks associated with the daily processing of purchase requisitions for internal customers.
  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies for complex electronics commodities (e.g., active/passive components, semiconductors, and integrated circuits).
  • Partner with NPI (New Product Introduction) and Engineering teams during the product design phase to optimize BOM targets, select viable alternatives, and ensure early supplier involvement.
  • Lead high-level negotiations with suppliers, securing favorable pricing, lead times, inventory consignment, and volume discount agreements.
  • Aide in the organization of the technical data, development of statement of work, delivery schedule, milestone payments, terms and conditions, offset requirements and other contractual elements into a cohesive proposal.
  • Review the technical and pricing proposals for accuracy and consistency, develop individual supplier strategies and making recommendations to the internal customer based on the analysis with attention to the financial and business risk of each proposal.
  • May develop contractual language to ensure compliance with BAE Systems, Inc. legal terms and conditions. Negotiate low risk business terms and conditions, as required.
  • Serve as primary point of contact between the company and the supplier for contractual matters on assigned contracts and projects, including supplementary agreements such as proprietary information agreements, teaming and other business agreements.
  • Proactively manage material risks such as PCN (Product Change Notification) and EOL (End of Life). Implement strategies to prevent counterfeit components and ensure continuity of supply. Use ERP/MRP systems to forecast demand, set safety stock levels, and coordinate production schedules to prevent stockouts or excess inventory.
  • Evaluate and monitor vendor performance through scorecards (On-Time Delivery, Quality, responsiveness) and drive root-cause corrective actions when necessary.
  • Document procurement files in accordance with polices and appropriately demonstrate that consideration has been given to all factors essential to effective and economical procurement.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Required Skills and Education

  • Bachelor's degree plus 8 or more years of related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, Microsoft Office experience to include Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Demonstrated experience serving as a SME for Electronic (EEE) component.
  • Solid working knowledge of U.S. import/export regulations, tariff classifications.
  • Experience with U.S. export controls (EAR/ITAR) and dual-use technology classification.
  • Experience supervising at least one direct report or junior team member.
  • Experience with FAR procurements.
  • Exhibit high level of motivation, attention to detail, energetic approach and positive attitude to job duties and requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Tariff intelligence and regulatory monitoring.
  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM).
  • Technically knowledgeable and capable of grasping detailed concepts.
  • High degree of organizational skills and attention to detail.
