Metrology Software Application & Automation Engineer

Summary

Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence is seeking a Metrology Software Application & Automation Engineer to support our Portable Metrology Software business.

This role combines technical consulting, customer support, and hands-on solution delivery. The Metrology Software Application & Automation Engineer will work with customers and the Software Sales Team to understand measurement, inspection, and automation requirements and help develop effective software and services solutions.

The successful candidate will support projects from initial technical discovery through implementation, including defining requirements, developing workflows, configuring solutions, troubleshooting technical challenges, and supporting customer adoption.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in metrology software and measurement technologies, experience with automation or programming, and the ability to independently solve technical customer challenges.

What You'll Do

  • Partner with the Software Sales Team to support metrology software and automation opportunities.
  • Meet with customers onsite and remotely to understand manufacturing, inspection, measurement, and automation requirements.
  • Recommend technical solutions using Hexagon software, hardware, and services.
  • Support the development of project scope, implementation requirements, timelines, resources, and estimated costs.
  • Contribute technical information to proposals, statements of work, quotations, and customer presentations.
  • Conduct software demonstrations and communicate product capabilities and recommended workflows to customers.
  • Support the implementation of metrology software and automation solutions in customer environments.
  • Develop and configure measurement workflows, automated routines, and software integrations.
  • Configure, deploy, test, and validate metrology software solutions.
  • Support integrations between metrology software, measurement equipment, robotic systems, and other manufacturing technologies.
  • Troubleshoot software, automation, integration, and metrology-related issues.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal technical teams to resolve complex application challenges.
  • Provide customer training, technical guidance, and knowledge transfer during implementation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve measurement productivity, repeatability, and process efficiency.

What We're Looking For

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Manufacturing, Metrology, Robotics, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in metrology, manufacturing, measurement, automation, or a related technical field.
  • Experience working with SpatialAnalyzer and/or Inspire software.
  • Strong understanding of metrology technologies such as laser trackers, portable measuring arms, scanners, photogrammetry systems, or related measurement equipment.
  • Experience supporting or developing automation solutions within metrology or manufacturing environments.
  • Working knowledge of programming or scripting languages such as Python, C#, VB.NET, JavaScript, or similar technologies.
  • Experience working with automated manufacturing equipment or robotic systems.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to independently manage technical assignments and collaborate with others on more complex projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% domestically and internationally.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience integrating metrology software with robotics, PLCs, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), or other production automation systems.
  • Experience developing software integrations, APIs, scripts, or automated workflows.
  • Familiarity with Hexagon hardware and software solutions.
  • Experience supporting customers in manufacturing or industrial environments.


Work Environment

This position works closely with customers and internal teams across remote, office, manufacturing, and customer-site environments. The role requires collaboration across technical, commercial, and service teams and may involve working around manufacturing equipment, metrology systems, and automated production environments.

Travel of up to 50% domestically and internationally is required.
