Job Description

Wyman-Gordon, located in Princeton KY, provides Nickel-based Extruded Powder Alloy for Military and Commercial Turbine Applications. The Princeton MI facility offers Vacuum-Melt Atomizers; for the raw material needs of the Worcester MA forge Isothermal forge shop. This growing, profit center is part of a highly successful, multi-billion diversified manufacturer. Precision Castparts Corporation (PCC).

Metallurgist - Powder Metal

PURPOSE:

Seeking Metallurgist to provide a diversified range of technical services to internal and external customers supporting the attainment of Company, Team, and Division goals. Experience in a lean manufacturing environment strongly preferred. Commitment to following and promoting zero-accident safety culture required. Although primary responsibilities are in support of the Princeton KY facility, some additional responsibilities may be required to support Worcester MA and/or Brighton MI.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Dispositions referred, non-conforming and off-standard materials
  • Provides training and education to customers
  • Applies statistical methods to solve problems and design experiments
  • Assists in the use of SPC, six-sigma and/or BPI tools to detect project inefficiencies
  • Develops processing for new products
  • Reviews customer inquiries and specifications for new products
  • Provides support, leadership, and guidance to peers, customers, and managers in key projects
  • Performs all other duties, tasks, and special projects as assigned


EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Four-year college degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field-Associate degree and/or equivalent experience as determined by department management would also be considered
  • 1-7 years of experience working in a metallurgical capacity, preferably in a powder metal manufacturing environment. Must have experience providing support on a production floor.
  • Specialized knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods, and practices
  • Specialized knowledge of metallurgical and production equipment
  • Understanding of the application of statistics, six sigma and BPI practices
  • Ability to access mill and manufacturing areas
  • Experience leading, supporting and participating on project teams


  • Ability to provide mentorship to internal resources as requested within functional area
  • Proven customer service skills with the ability to assist internal and external customers
  • Strong communication skills-written and verbal with the ability to listen intently
  • Ability to deliver results on-schedule
  • Ability to recognize and communicate technical risks
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)

US Citizenship or Perm Residency is required due to government military contracts.
