This Opportunity

WSP is currently seeking a MEP Engineer - Construction Administration (CA) to support the successful execution of building projects across a variety of market sectors, including commercial, healthcare, higher education, science & technology, and industrial facilities.

This role is ideal for a construction-focused MEP professional who enjoys being embedded on site, partnering with contractors, owners, architects, IORs, HCAI/OSHPD field staff, and internal design teams to verify MEP systems are installed in accordance with approved documents, design intent, applicable codes, and WSP quality standards.

Your Impact
  • Provide mechanical and plumbing construction administration support from construction commencement through project close-out.
  • Review and coordinate responses to RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, deferred approvals, product data, field reports, and other construction-phase documentation for MEP systems.
  • Maintain regular on-site presence; perform field observations, IOR coordination, punch walks, and follow-up reviews to verify installation quality, constructability, code compliance, and alignment with approved HCAI/OSHPD documents.
  • Support issue resolution in collaboration with contractors, IORs, HCAI/OSHPD field staff, architects, owners, and internal project teams.
  • Review change orders, field directives, and proposed substitutions; assist with field clarifications, constructability evaluations, and assessment of cost/schedule impacts.
  • Coordinate with internal mechanical, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, fire/life safety, medical equipment, and architectural teams to resolve field conflicts, above-ceiling coordination issues, utility tie-ins, and live healthcare environment constraints.
  • Support commissioning, start-up reviews, and close-out documentation as required.
  • Assist with QA/QC reviews to ensure alignment with WSP standards, approved construction documents, HCAI/OSHPD comments, contract requirements, and project-specific healthcare criteria.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, contractors, IORs, HCAI/OSHPD field staff, design professionals, and project stakeholders during OAC meetings, construction meetings, site walks, and issue-resolution discussions.


Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Building Sciences, or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education, HCAI/OSHPD healthcare construction experience, Inspector of Record (IOR) experience, construction administration, field inspection, commissioning, or contractor-side project delivery experience.
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience supporting building system projects, with a strong emphasis on construction administration.
  • Hands-on experience reviewing and interpreting construction documents, specifications, and submittal packages.
  • Working knowledge of MEP systems including HVAC, hydronic systems, air distribution, infection-control/pressure relationship requirements, domestic water, sanitary, storm, specialty waste, and medical gas systems.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards, including California Building Standards Code/Title 24, HCAI/OSHPD requirements, ASHRAE, NFPA, IBC, IPC/CPC, FGI Guidelines, and local AHJs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam, and construction management platforms; ability to navigate construction drawings, models, submittal logs, RFI logs, and field documentation efficiently.
  • Current or prior experience serving as, or directly coordinating with, an HCAI/OSHPD Inspector of Record (IOR) on California healthcare projects. HCAI Certified Hospital Inspector Class A or Class B certification is strongly preferred; Class C specialty certification may be considered where aligned with project scope.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE), California contractor/inspection credentials, HCAI hospital inspector certification, or ability to obtain relevant credentials.
  • Experience supporting acute care hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, imaging/procedural suites, behavioral health, higher education, or complex commercial projects.
  • Prior experience working directly with general contractors, trade contractors, IORs, testing/inspection agencies, commissioning agents, and owner representatives during active construction.
  • Familiarity with commissioning processes and construction close-out activities.

Compensation:

Expected Salary: $115,200 - $182,200

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
