Description

The Melt Manager operates as a Business Partner to the Operations Manager. Accountable to lead, develop and manage labor across the Melt Department. Delivers sustained manufacturing results consistent with production schedules, customer requirements and business plans. Directly accountable for operations which ensure worker safety, compliance with environmental regulations, and integration with the company quality systems. Drives the continuous improvement of all operations through the implementation of process improvements, and lean initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure adherence to safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
  • Actively promotes safety awareness and continuous improvement through observation and team input.
  • Report workplace injuries and perform safety investigations along with appropriate reports.
  • Drive the quality objectives of the plant by ensuring the product meets customer and internal requirements through product and process inspections.
  • Facilitate and perform equipment set-up or adjustments when required.
  • Owner of Melting Department OEE reporting and improvements.
  • Review and update Melt Department manufacturing route in ERP system on a semi-annual basis.
  • Oversee and promote training to meet quality expectations by ensuring all employees are trained to perform their respective jobs including the purpose of the safety features of their specific machines, workstation controls, tools and equipment.
  • Oversee a comprehensive 30/60/90-day training program for all Melt Department direct labor.
  • Responsible for approving and communicating mandatory overtime and additional training requirements as needed.
  • Review daily operational reports to communicate operational, manufacturing, maintenance issues and shift events to management team to prevent operational delays.
  • Oversee and audit production system functions and backup payroll as necessary.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and yield projects.
  • Coach, lead, mentor and develop supervisors and other staff to achieve manufacturing objectives and to support individual employee development.
  • Exercises the customary role of a manager to include but not be limited to work quality, work volume, work assignment, communications, positive reinforcement, performance review, performance management, wage and salary administration, safety, equal employment opportunity and, if needed, discipline.
  • Perform other related duties assigned by site leadership.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Oversees management of area employees in manufacturing including direct reports. Responsible for the overall process, direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Melt Department. Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Requirements

Education and/or Experience:
  • 10 - 15 years of demonstrated manufacturing management experience and success in a metals or chemicals manufacturing environment with a progression of increased responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience with manufacturing resources planning.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills to enable the incumbent to provide effective daily leadership and meaningful presentations to location employees, customers and others.

Computer Skills:

Demonstrated skills with Microsoft office suite, SAP, IGNITION/SCADA

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat and mild cold conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment will require hearing protection as required by area Decibel measurements.
