Medical Oncologist and Hematologist Responsibilities:- Deliver coordinated, multispecialty care to patients with solid tumors and benign hematologic conditions in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Participate in multidisciplinary oncology care with a team that includes surgery, radiation oncology, clinical research, genetic counseling, palliative care, nutrition, and psychosocial support.
- Complete initial assessments and evaluations of new patients and provide ongoing monitoring and treatment plans.
- Order prescription medications and diagnostic procedures; coordinate all specialty and ancillary services as needed.
- Actively contribute to programs such as preventive health screenings, professional community outreach, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Engage in clinical research projects and studies in both oncology and classical hematology, including translational efforts.
- Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and collaborative care discussions.
- Provide clinical teaching and in-service education to medical students, residents, and fellows.
- Collaborate closely with nursing, social work, and rehabilitation staff to ensure holistic, patient-centered care.
Clinical Setting & Research Infrastructure:- Based at the flagship Inova Schar Cancer Center, a 340,000 square foot facility offering comprehensive cancer care under one roof.
- Facilities include a 60-chair infusion unit, radiation oncology with proton therapy, bone marrow transplant and cellular therapy clinics, and a robust clinical research operation.
- Adjacent to Inova Fairfax Medical Campus, a 960-bed Level 1 trauma hospital with established training programs, including a hematology/oncology fellowship and UVA medical student rotations.
- Supported by an experienced clinical research office for industry-sponsored, NCI, and investigator-initiated trials.
Candidate Requirements:- Medical Oncologist: Board-certified in Medical Oncology; successful completion of an accredited residency and fellowship.
- Classical Hematologist: Board-certified in Hematology; demonstrated experience in clinical care and research of benign hematologic disorders.
- Licensure: Current unrestricted license (or eligibility) to practice medicine in the state of Virginia.
- Proven track record in patient-centered care, education, and clinical research.
