We are searching for the best talent for Mechatronics & Systems Integration- Robotics Interns within Robotics R&D.

Purpose: This internship is based in Santa Clara, California and offers a unique opportunity for students with a background in hardware and mechatronics and passionate about medical robotics. Interns will work alongside other engineering domains such as mechanical, mechatronics, controls, software, and clinical engineering. This will support the prototyping, development, test, and production of surgical robotic platforms that will improve patient outcomes worldwide.

As a Mechatronics Systems Integration Intern, you will apply a variety of engineering expertise (mechatronics, robotics, mechanical, electrical, algorithms, and/or software) to contribute hands-on to surgical robotics development, integration, characterization, algorithms, testing, etc. This role offers a high degree of autonomy, exposure to complex surgical robotics technologies, and opportunities for growth.

You will be responsible for:
  • Support system/subsystem-level surgical robotics development, integration, and/or testing.
  • Identify, root cause, and resolve novel issues that arise across R&D systems by working across mechanical, electrical, software and robotic controls domains.
  • Characterize and de-risk the design from prototype to subsystem level, analyze test results, and provide meaningful insights or conclusions.
  • Support development of new test methods and fixtures for system/subsystem integration, test, and/or calibration.


Role Variability: This internship track covers a range of System Integration, Mechatronics, and Robotics roles, Responsibilities will vary depending on the specific project, team, or role, and may range from early-stage prototype development to improving and troubleshooting mature systems.

Qualifications / Requirements:

Education

Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical Engineering, or similar. Candidates must plan to return to an academic program after the completion of the internship.

Experience and skills
  • Self-starter with a consistent record of engaging in self-directed learning and remaining productive with minimal direction.
  • Basic understanding of sensors and motors.
  • Hands-on experience building or troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and/or software systems through laboratory courses, design projects, or internships.
  • Available to work full-time (40 hours/week) and during hours agreed upon with the hiring manager.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 reflective of all coursework
  • Commitment to June 1 - August 20, 2027, or June 21 - September 10, 2027; term dates to align with cohort
  • Must have work authorization in the United States at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment


Nice-to-Have
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn, evaluate, and adopt new AI tools and platforms to meet evolving project needs.
  • Basic understanding of electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and system design.
  • Strong programming skills in C++, Python, or similar languages.
  • Microcontroller coding (e.g. Arduino)
  • Experience in robotics or biomedical engineering
  • Experience partitioning and decomposing complex engineering problems into solvable problems.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
The expected base pay for this position is Sophomore $32/hr, Junior $35.50/hr, Senior $39/hr, Master's degree $46.50/hr, PhD degree $61/hr.

Co-Ops/Interns are eligible to participate in Company sponsored employee medical benefits in accordance with the terms of the plan. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year Co-Ops and Interns are eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension)
