About the role Archean Sciences is developing autonomous brain-on-a-chip systems that interface living neurons with advanced hardware and software. Our platform is designed to support scalable in vitro neuroscience, drug development, and biological computing by making live-cell experiments more automated, reproducible, and data-rich.
We are looking for a versatile Mechatronics Engineer to help build, integrate, and harden the next generation of our autonomous systems. This role will own the end-to-end physical integration of the biological interface hardware into a reliable autonomous platform.
Responsibilities - Build and integrate robotics, motion control, sensors, actuators, fluid handling, and control systems.
- Prototype fixtures, wiring, PCBs, mechanical interfaces, and system assemblies.
- Fabricate chips in the cleanroom.
- Translate biological and experimental requirements into engineering specifications and test plans.
- Design around live-cell constraints including environmental control, sterile fluid handling, optical access, and electrical interfacing.
- Develop calibration, diagnostics, data logging, reliability testing, and operating SOPs.
- Improve system robustness and manufacturability as the platform moves from prototype toward product.
Qualifications We are especially interested in candidates with experience in several of the following areas:
- Mechatronics, robotics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related fields.
- Motion control, sensors, actuators, embedded systems, FPGAs, or automation.
- Python, control software, data logging, diagnostics, or hardware-in-the-loop testing.
- PCB bring-up, wiring, fixtures, rapid prototyping, or lab instrumentation.
- Fluidics, sterile systems, environmental control, microscopy, electrophysiology, or biological instrumentation.
- Cleanroom fabrication.
- Building systems that must operate reliably over long periods with limited supervision.

- You can prototype quickly, debug across disciplines, and turn working prototypes into reliable, documented systems that others can operate.

Compensation Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
