This role in summaryWhirlpool is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Cycle Design Engineer. This is an onsite role at our St. Joseph Tech Center in MI.
The Cycle Design Engineer Analyst will be a member of the Laundry Engineering Performance Subsystem. The Engineer will be responsible for the delivery of algorithms, logic, and cycle designs that enable compliance with global requirements and that integrate seamlessly with component modules for new and existing laundry products. This engineer will work to develop, optimize, integrate, and execute algorithms in conjunction with technology to deliver consumer relevant product attribute performance for laundry products.
Your responsibilities will include- Develop Wash System algorithms, logic and cycle design, including development for Residential and Commercial washers
- Optimize appliance performance through module development and parameterization
- Support module technology roadmaps, including complexity reduction, attribute requirements, and cost & quality initiatives
- Characterize the critical module parameters that contribute to system level attribute requirements (functional decomposition) and capture knowledge required to deliver module-level excellence
- Develop an understanding of washer physics, with a key focus on Chemical, Mechanical and Thermal dynamics that govern the wash system
- Support new product design from concept development through execution, including Advanced Development and Production Development projects
- Develop multiple concepts and utilize Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), design verification plans (DVP), and risk management tools to assist in decisions for performance attributes
- Develop new, and improve upon existing, test methodologies and test plans for performance verification and validation
- Support marketing claims development and validation
- Support Regulatory product compliance for NAR and other countries where NAR products are marketed
- Translate the Voice of the Consumer into Engineering requirements and targets
Minimum requirements- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
- 3+ years of experience in Appliance or Consumer Goods Industry
- 3+ years of experience in problem solving in an engineering environment
Preferred skills and experiences- Masters of Science in Engineering
- Green Belt/Opex/Six Sigma certification and/or experience
- Proficient knowledge of Risk Management and Project Management
- Understanding of wash process fundamentals and underlying scientific concepts
- Strong communication skills
