Full Job Description
Purpose:

The Mechanical Turnaround Planner will be responsible for developing detailed mechanical work plans to support the successful execution of the DeNOx Project while adhering to site safety, quality, cost, and schedule expectations. The primary focus of the role will be planning mechanical installation, maintenance, and construction activities associated with the DeNOx Project. As project planning needs are achieved, the planner will also support preparation and planning activities for upcoming plant outages and turnaround events currently anticipated for 2027.

The position will work closely with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Construction Management, Contractors, and Project Teams to ensure work packages are properly developed, materials are identified and procured, resources are estimated, and execution risks are minimized.

This position is based onsite in Geismar, Louisiana with an anticipated initial duration of one year and a 4/10 work schedule.

Key Responsibilities

DeNOx Project Planning
  • Develop comprehensive mechanical work packages to support DeNOx Project execution.
  • Review engineering deliverables including drawings, specifications, P&IDs, equipment data sheets, and construction work scopes.
  • Perform field walk-downs to validate scope, access requirements, material needs, and execution strategies.
  • Develop detailed job plans including labor estimates, equipment requirements, tools, permits, scaffolding, insulation, and specialty contractor needs.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Construction, and Operations to identify and resolve scope conflicts or execution constraints.
  • Support project scheduling activities through development of planning deliverables and schedule logic.
  • Identify long-lead materials and support procurement efforts to ensure project readiness.
  • Assist with contractor scope development, bid package preparation, and execution planning.

Outage and Turnaround Planning Support (2027)
  • Support development of outage and turnaround mechanical work scopes.
  • Prepare work packages for equipment inspections, repairs, replacements, and modifications.
  • Assist with scope challenge and optimization efforts to improve outage execution efficiency.
  • Develop detailed resource, material, and duration estimates for outage activities.
  • Coordinate mechanical planning activities with Operations, Reliability, Inspection, and Maintenance organizations.
  • Support shutdown, maintenance, and startup planning activities as required.

General Responsibilities
  • Ensure all planning activities comply with site safety requirements, Responsible Care expectations, and maintenance work processes.
  • Utilize Maximo, Primavera P6, SAP, or other site management systems to support planning activities.
  • Participate in risk assessments, constructability reviews, and pre-job planning sessions.
  • Maintain planning documentation and records in accordance with site procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to planning effectiveness, work execution, and cost management.
  • Provide planning support during project execution and outage events as needed.


What you will bring
Technical/Industry Experience and Qualifications Requirements
  • Minimum 10 years of mechanical maintenance, construction, turnaround, or project planning experience in a refinery, petrochemical, chemical manufacturing, or similar industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of rotating equipment, piping systems, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, valves, and mechanical equipment.
  • Experience developing job plans, estimates, work packages, and contractor scopes.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, and engineering documents.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office applications and maintenance management systems.
  • Experience supporting capital projects and turnaround events.
  • Knowledge of site work management processes and contractor management practices.

Preferred
  • Experience with Maximo and Primavera P6.
  • Previous experience as a Maintenance Planner, Turnaround Planner, Mechanical Supervisor, or Construction Planner.
