Full Job Description
Bio-Rad is looking for an enthusiastic Mechanical Systems Technician to support its global organization. You will be part of the innovative Mechanical Engineering Team developing complex solutions for cutting edge life science instrument systems. We need a proven technical troubleshooter who gets excited about pushing the boundaries of medical diagnostics, is highly analytical, and sees the big picture needed to evolve a concept into an instrument.

You will report directly to the Head of Mechanical Engineering and be part of a larger multi-disciplinary R&D team. Come join us and be a key player in our next innovative instrument. You will work with a diverse engineering team on optical and fluidic systems (including droplet-based digital PCR). This work will span from the research stage through product launch. At our Pleasanton R&D center, you can have a big company impact while working at a small, nimble and dynamic site.

How You`ll Make An Impact:
  • Support engineering development activities including but not limited to design, fabrication, assembly, modification, and test of complex electro-mechanical research instruments, assemblies, components, and consumables.
  • Build and test R&D prototypes during the engineering development lifecycle.
  • Support transfer of development instruments to manufacturing including troubleshooting guides.
  • Support test and fixture development for laboratory testing including assembly procedures.
  • Support Reliability, Verification and Validation Testing.

What You Bring:
  • Education: Associate's degree or demonstrated expertise in an engineering environment (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred).
  • Work Experience: Minimum of 10+ years of professional experience required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Expertise in physical prototyping with demonstrated proficiency with conventional machining, hand tools, precision measurement equipment, soldering, crimping, and/or electrical test equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform mechanical, electrical, optical, fluidic, and/or system level troubleshooting, leading to the identification of root cause and corrective action of instrument failures.
  • Wet bench experience, preferably in PCR and single-cell applications is preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge of CAD package(s) is preferred.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment is preferred.
  • Multi-tasking skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment.

Location: This position must be based in Pleasanton, CA and requires the employee to be located within commuting distance of the office.

Compensation: The estimated hourly range for this position is $38.75 to $53.27 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors. This position is eligible for a variable annual bonus, which is dependent upon achievement of your individual objectives and Company performance.
