Astute's Team is partnering with a leading Waste Management company owned and operated by one of the USA's largest Waste providers.

The Waste to Energy facility in Southeastern Massachusetts is capable of processing more than 1 million tons of waste per year, providing a vital solution to prevent waste otherwise destined for landfills.

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Supervisor to lead daily maintenance operations. In this key role, you will provide direction to technicians, set daily priorities, and drive solutions for equipment and reliability issues. The successful candidate will play a crucial part in ensuring all maintenance activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with environmental standards.

Responsibilities and duties of the Mechanical Supervisor role:

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading daily work planning and adjusting priorities based on operational needs
  • Overseeing safe and effective execution of maintenance tasks to maximize equipment availability and plant capacity
  • Managing work schedules to support day-to-day operations, planned outages (major/minor), forced outages, and special projects
  • Utilizing a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to track KPIs, manage backlog, optimize preventive and corrective maintenance, and develop work orders
  • Ensuring maintenance schedules are followed and work is completed according to weekly/bi-weekly plans
  • Supporting technician development through training, qualifications tracking, and performance progression
  • Leading Root Cause Analysis (RCA) efforts to improve equipment reliability and long-term performance
  • Hiring, onboarding, and developing team members to build a technically capable, cross-trained, and motivated workforce
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives using change management and industry best practices
  • Coordinating with the warehouse on procurement of outage materials, rental equipment, and contractor support
  • Performing safety audits on both routine and critical maintenance activities
  • Generating and publishing various operational and performance reports


Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline is highly preferred


Personal skills

The Mechanical Supervisor role would suit someone who has:

  • At least five years' experience working in a Power Station carrying out Mechanical Maintenance activities
  • At least two years supervisory experience
  • Proven experience in the planning and delivery of outages
  • Competent on IT systems such as Microsoft Office Suite and CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems)
  • Willingness to support boiler outages, weekend call outs and be on call as part of a rota
  • You must be able to wear a full-face respirator
