Full Job Description
Inside the Role
The ICE Powertrain Engineering team is responsible for the development, design, and integration of powertrain systems into industry leading heavy duty specialty vehicles. ICE Powertrain includes, but not limited to, engines, transmissions, air intake, cooling systems, and exhaust/aftertreatment for on-highway vehicle chassis models which are produced by Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation for applications including truck, bus, RV, and motor coach.

Position offers a starting salary range of $86,000 - $110,000 USD

Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What You Drive at DTNA
  • Uses computer-aided engineering (CAE) to solve complex vehicle design problems using finite element analysis (FEA) and multi-body simulation (MBS), and fatigue analysis
  • Designs and develops mechanical products, components, or systems including applying mechanical engineering principles to develop products, components, and systems that involve movement
  • May also be involved with designing product specific manufacturing production processes and equipment
  • Collaborates with marketing and industrial design teams to develop products that meet technical/functional specifications as well as manufacturing cost/efficiency requirements
  • Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype mechanical products and assemblies


Knowledge You Should Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering OR an Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 2+ years of related experience OR 6+ years of design engineering experience required
  • Full understanding of theories, practices, and procedures related to job field
  • Experience and understanding of medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicle systems
  • Works within standard practices and procedures to analyze information and problems of limited scope
  • Demonstrated teamwork, strong written and verbal communication skills, including cross-functional collaboration
  • Understanding of engineering and manufacturing processes & downstream impacts
  • Experience with 3D CAD design required (Siemens NX preferred)
  • An attached resume is required
