The Opportunity:

Make your mark while you grow your career! As a Mechanical Inspector, you will oversee and inspect electric rope shovel mechanical systems to improve reliability. You will also create detailed reports on system performance, implement corrective measures, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Job location: Albian Site - Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Shift schedule: 7 x 7, 12-hour shifts (Wednesday to Tuesday, dayshifts only)
  • Safety sensitive position: Yes

Key Accountabilities:
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and Alberta OH&S legislation, promoting a zero-incident culture and holding teams accountable to procedures and policies
  • Conduct mechanical inspections (transmissions, air, lubrication, hydraulic) to identify risks, failures, and performance deficiencies on a fleet consisting of:
    • Caterpillar 7495 Electric Rope Shovels
    • Hitachi EX8000 Hydraulic Shovels
  • Perform failure analysis and condition-based monitoring (including oil sampling) to determine root causes and implement corrective actions
  • Develop and maintain accurate mechanical documentation, reliability reports, preventative maintenance (PM) packages, and job procedures
  • Using the Management of Change (MOC) program, identify and implement initiatives for cost-savings and equipment reliability improvement
  • Support maintenance planning and execution by participating in outage planning, warranty claims, troubleshooting, and providing technical guidance and direction
  • Collaborate with vendors and OEMs to improve equipment reliability, support product testing, and advise on component rebuilds

What You Bring to the Role:
  • 10+ years as a Heavy Equipment Technician or Millwright
  • Experience with ultra-class mining shovels (Caterpillar preferred) or other large mining equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills on heavy equipment systems
  • A self-driven, highly motivated individual who proactively seeks opportunities to improve shovel systems and operates effectively with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to develop well-structured, data-driven reliability reports and communicate findings effectively
  • Comfortable working in a primarily field-based role (~80%) while effectively supporting office-based analysis and reporting (~20%)
