OVERVIEW

Merrick is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer II to join a team of engineering and design personnel serving the Nuclear Services & Technology Business Unit in our office in Aiken, SC. This dynamic multi-discipline engineering group specializes in the design of prototype/one-off custom equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment and custom-designed, remotely operated mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials.

Typical salary range for this position is $75,600 - 97,800. However, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • The Mechanical Design Engineer will work on a team of engineers and designers within the equipment design group and interface with other disciplines (electrical, fire, HVAC, I&C, structural, and process).
  • This individual may be asked to direct the work of designers and take design direction from senior-level engineers.
  • Work effectively with commercial component vendors
  • Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems.
  • Prepares and checks working drawings or calculations of complexity, or layouts and
    arrangements requiring independent judgment.
  • Manages Creo design, layout, and interdisciplinary coordination in the production process of project drawings and documents.
  • Produces Creo drawings and models using advanced working knowledge of the CAD software. Detailed design activities include preparation of component, subassembly and main assembly Creo models; creating detailed fabrication drawing packages; evaluating and selecting purchased components; creating detailed Bills of Materials and completing equipment datasheets. Establishes model structure and drawing tree architecture.
  • Performs design, layout, and interdisciplinary coordination in the production process of project drawings and documents.
  • Recommends alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures.
  • Follow regimented quality assurance / quality control procedures.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or Engineering Technology (MET) from an accredited program.
  • Four (4) + years working experience with 3D CAD and CAE systems (Creo, Solidworks or similar).
  • Client projects for this position require US Citizenship.
  • Expert working knowledge of Creo design software.
  • Respectfully and productively interacts with other staff.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and present technical articles to team.
  • Proficient with one additional 3D design software.
  • Knowledge of technical principles and practices.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Exhibits excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Previous experience with NRC, DOE, or DoD projects is a plus.
  • Familiarity with NQA-1-2000 quality assurance programs is a plus.
