At a Glance

Focal Point has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Engineering Supervisor for our Existing Product Support (EPS) team in Chicago, IL. The successful candidate will be a key part of the Focal Point engineering team, supporting the development of world-class luminaire designs and the integration of those luminaires into an ever-advancing lighting environment.

This individual will manage projects for an offshore team of engineers in India and lead two onsite technicians who are accountable for the completion of product updates and cost reduction projects and for the support of the ongoing production of our products. In addition, this person will ensure that projects are delivered on time, while maintaining high-quality standards in support of Focal Point's premium brand. This position reports to the Sr. Engineering Manager of Product Development.

Responsibilities

What Will You Do?
  • Create and maintain a team environment that supports successful development and delivery of high quality, market relevant product designs
  • Manage a portfolio of projects including product update requests, cost reduction efforts, and design improvements
  • Virtual and onsite management of project priorities and timelines for the team
  • Act as a key reviewer of mechanical engineering designs at Focal Point, ensuring design parameters are in alignment with required performance requirements, manufacturing, and assembly processes
  • Coordinate product operationalization activities with onsite cross functional teams
  • Drive a strong understanding and integration of process capability (both internal and external) into product design. Enable effective collaboration with suppliers on new designs
  • Support on time delivery by responding to production and supply chain inquiries
  • Oversee the hiring, training, development, and performance evaluations of EPS team while acting as a coach and mentor

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, with 7+ years of experience in product design.
  • Experience in project management and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in VAVE cost reduction methodology.
  • Highly proficient in the use of FMEA as a design and risk mitigation tool.
  • Highly proficient in GD&T and significant experience in designing/creating drawings using GD&T.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and experience with DFM.
  • Experience working with an engineering services offshore team virtually preferred, but not required
  • Experience leading an engineering services offshore team virtually, preferred but not required.
  • Proficient with 3D modeling software, preferably Solidworks.


Salary Range: $90,000 - $110,000 starting base plus bonus
