DLR Group has an opening for a Mechanical Engineering Studio Leader.

Position Summary

As the Mechanical Engineering Team Leader, you will be responsible for leading the design of mechanical systems for buildings across a variety of sectors Higher Education, Culture & Performing Arts, Healthcare, K-12, Justice/Civic, Science & Technology, and Energy. You will lead a mechanical engineering team to produce high-quality construction documents using Revit and manage project schedules to meet deliverable requirements. As part of the integrated design team, you will collaborate closely with other disciplines to produce highly integrated building designs. Responsibilities include management of Mechanical Engineers and Designers and/or other team members within your studio.

The successful candidate will:
  • Manage operations, execution, and expectations for the Mechanical Engineering Discipline in the Southwest region.
  • Workplan mechanical engineering projects and manage staff to execute work to the plan to achieve profitability goals.
  • Assign duties, responsibilities, and projects to personnel, properly balancing staffing and workload (team and personal) to achieve profit and revenue growth goals.
  • Schedule, facilitate and document meetings with staff and clients related to overall operations.
  • Partner with sector and practice leadership to perform all personnel functions such as recruitment, training, and evaluation of personnel.
  • Support business development initiatives by assisting the RFP process, participating in project interviews, and actively engaging in community and/or industry specific organization that will build the DLR Group brand.
  • Maintain industry leading workplace practices to drive operating unit and culture towards a great place to work status.
  • Develop mechanical designs from concept through completion of construction, including engineering design calculations, detailed engineering reports and narratives, and coordination of mechanical design requirements.
  • Perform quality control of the mechanical engineering plans and specifications.
  • Direct or coordinate activities of personnel, vendors, and consultants.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Licensed Mechanical Engineer.
  • 8+ years of experience working as a mechanical engineer, including design of HVAC systems, central utility plants, plumbing and fire suppression systems.
  • Working knowledge of the design and construction process and the ability to understand and communicate with professionals of other disciplines.
  • Prior experience leading teams of Engineers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with BIM (e.g. Autodesk Revit MEP) work flow.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • LEED Accredited Professional and previous experience participating in the LEED or other green rating system process.
  • Prior experience in Healthcare mechanical design.
  • Experience and interest in sustainable building design.

The suggested pay range for this position is:

Pay Range

$105,000-$145,000 USD

DLR Group follows a four-day in-office work model, with employees having the flexibility to work somewhere other than the office on Fridays.
