Overview

ENERCON's Federal Services (EFS) North Division is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing, multidisciplinary mechanical engineering team supporting federal, nuclear, and industrial clients. This role is ideal for a technically strong engineering leader who excels in process engineering, facility and systems design, and piping & pumping system engineering, while also shaping team performance, development, and culture within a matrix organization. This position can be located in the following office locations:

  • Kennewick, WA
  • Naperville, IL
  • Overland Park, KS

Responsibilities

At ENERCON, you will lead high-impact engineering initiatives that directly strengthen critical national infrastructure, while shaping and elevating the next generation of mechanical engineering talent. You'll join a high-performing, collaborative team with the autonomy to drive discipline excellence, influence major design decisions, and build long-term technical capability across the division. As the Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will serve as the mechanical discipline authority, owning final approval of all ME deliverables for the North Division, and lead the people side of the organization through strategic staffing, performance management, mentorship, and the development of a strong, future-ready engineering workforce.

  • Leadership & People Management: Lead, coach, and mentor mechanical engineers across multiple offices in a matrixed environment. Conduct annual performance reviews, address performance issues, and award spot bonuses. Develop and manage training plans, career development paths, and individual growth opportunities. Oversee resource planning, staffing forecasts, and workload balancing for Mechanical Engineering (ME) discipline needs.
  • Technical & Project Responsibilities: Serve as the Engineer of Record / final approver for all ME discipline calculations, reports, drawings, specifications, and design packages. Provide technical oversight and guidance to Lead Responsible Engineers (LREs) and Discipline Responsible Engineers (REs). Lead process design and facility modification efforts including Pumping and piping system design, Mechanical/process equipment sizing and selection, Facility utility and system upgrades Engineering studies and design basis development. Support proposal development through cost estimating, schedule input, and technical writing. Ensure discipline quality, consistency, and compliance with federal and industry standards.
  • Collaboration & Client Engagement: Collaborate with project managers, discipline leads, and clients to ensure requirements, quality expectations, and milestones are met. Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support successful project execution.
  • Field & Site Engagement: Conduct occasional field travel for system walkdowns, data collection, constructability reviews, and startup/installation support. #LI-SH7

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related discipline)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • 6+ years of mechanical design engineering experience in federal, nuclear, industrial, or power generation environments.
  • 2+ years of engineering leadership, supervisory, or technical lead experience.
  • Strong background in process systems, facility design, pumping and piping systems, and mechanical calculations.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.
  • Proficient in standard engineering and productivity tools (Word, Excel; familiarity with discipline design tools a plus).

Compensation Range

USD $120,000.00 - USD $185,000.00 /Yr.
