Reporting to the Sr. Engineering Manager, the mechanical reliability engineer is responsible for improving the reliability, performance, and availability of the mechanical systems of Legacy fleet cars and locomotives. They will investigate, conceptualize, design, and detail complex rolling stock configuration changes and overhaul programs on mechanical systems. They will also interface and provide technical support to your stakeholders such as the workshop, procurement, operations, and others.

Responsibilities:

Equipment modifications and programs
• Defines the scope of work and confirms feasibility based on the originator's requirements.
• Performs the necessary detailed calculations to develop a preliminary design.
• Develops schedules and estimates material, labor, and engineering costs.
• Design, draw, prepare bill of Material (BOM) and write technical specification & requirements for the installation, maintenance, modification, or repair or rolling stock systems or components.
• Validates the design and costs by overseeing a prototype installation with unionized labor.
• In collaboration with the other groups, define the maintenance requirement for the new configuration and prepare maintenance procedures.
• Ensures that system safety aspects are respected in the design process.
• Establish and document technical and/or purchase specifications
• Advises management on technological advances in Engineering features, procedures and standards by maintaining an awareness of the ''state of the art'' technical aspect of equipment and system design principle.
• Work closely with shop personnel and other group to develop and validate prototypes
• Qualifies and evaluates suppliers, manufacturers and new products and services.
• Leads kick off meeting, design reviews, testing, validation and post mortem per good project engineering practices.

Reliability
• Develop and implement the required processes, standards, tools, and templates for reliability practices, including monitoring methods, analysis models, standardized reporting, and data governance, in order to establish a sustainable structure for the department.
• Lead reliability analysis, performance assessment, and improvement initiatives for mechanical systems of Legacy fleet cars and locomotives, including bogies, braking systems, suspensions, sanitary systems, HVAC, diesel engines, transmissions, pneumatic systems, cooling systems, lubrication, and locomotive bogies.
• Conduct reliability analyses (RCA, FMEA, Pareto) and define technical priorities to reduce failures and improve system performance.
• Identify obsolescence risks and recommend technical solutions or alternatives in collaboration with Procurement and suppliers.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives and prepare business cases demonstrating the ROI of reliability actions.

Requirements:
• Bachelor's in mechanical engineering with a minimum of 3 years of pertinent experience.
• Accreditation (or eligibility for accreditation) as a member of l'Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.
• Mechanical engineering hands-on experience, including project engineering, design of components and systems, analyzing technical problems, developing solutions, implementing technology and preparing specifications in an industrial setting.
• Demonstrated experience in failure analysis (RCA, FMEA/FMECA, Pareto).
• Microsoft Office suite, Soliworks.
