Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

Blue Origin is pioneering the future of space-based communications with TeraWave, a revolutionary satellite communications network designed to deliver symmetrical data speeds of up to 6 Tbps anywhere on Earth. This multi-orbit constellation will consist of optically interconnected satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) and medium Earth orbit (MEO), providing enterprise-grade connectivity for critical operations worldwide.

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the design and development of hardware for our revolutionary TeraWave satellite communications network.

This role will be instrumental in establishing mechanical engineering excellence for our constellation designed to deliver symmetrical data speeds of up to 6 Tbps globally.

The ideal candidate brings expertise in mechanical design, structural and thermal analysis, and hardware development, thriving in a fast-paced environment where innovation meets mission-critical execution.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and develop mechanical hardware components and assemblies for the TeraWave satellite constellation and ground systems
  • Perform structural analysis, thermal analysis, and tolerance stack-ups to validate designs meet mission requirements
  • Develop and maintain detailed CAD models, engineering drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) in accordance with program standards
  • Support hardware integration and test activities, including environmental testing such as vibration, thermal vacuum, and shock
  • Collaborate with systems engineers, electrical engineers, and manufacturing teams to define mechanical requirements and interfaces
  • Generate and review engineering documentation including design specifications, analysis reports, and test procedures
  • Apply GD&T principles to ensure proper fit, form, and function across mechanical assemblies
  • Support design reviews including PDR, CDR, and other program milestones by preparing and presenting technical content
  • Identify design risks and drive mitigation strategies through rigorous analysis and design iteration
  • Interface with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure producibility and cost-effectiveness of mechanical designs
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities for hardware anomalies
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of mechanical design and development processes across the TeraWave program

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design and development of hardware systems
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD tools such as CATIA, SolidWorks, or NX for detailed design and assembly modeling
  • Experience performing structural and thermal analyses using analytical or finite element methods
  • Familiarity with GD&T principles and engineering drawing standards (ASME Y14.5)
  • Working knowledge of materials selection, manufacturing processes, and design for manufacturability
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly document and present technical work
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Experience with space systems hardware development including satellites, launch vehicles, or payloads
  • Background in designing hardware for launch and on-orbit environments (vibration, thermal vacuum, radiation)
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis tools such as NASTRAN, ANSYS, or ABAQUS
  • Experience with mechanisms design including hinges, latches, deployment systems, or actuators
  • Knowledge of thermal control technologies including heat pipes, MLI, coatings, and thermoelectric devices
  • Understanding of spacecraft structures and the unique design constraints of space-qualified hardware
  • Experience supporting hardware through full product lifecycle from design through integration and operations
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools and PLM systems such as Windchill or Teamcenter
