Your Opportunity

The role of an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer is to work on projects of all sizes. You will be required to own the engineering of regular designs and assist work on advanced designs under the guidance and supervision of a Senior Engineer. You will perform a variety of tasks which will include calculations and field work requiring travel.

The candidate may be assigned leadership roles for discreet scope elements on projects where they will be responsible for the delivery of scope, schedule and budget for multidisciplinary teams. Your home office will be either Saskatoon, SK or Sudbury, ON.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Supports project team in development of design documentation, plans and reports for relevant project design elements.
  • Assists in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Prepares and revises documentation in various project phases.
  • Coordinates with other disciplines to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
  • Assists in the review of shop drawings and submittals, responds to request for information, prepares site observation reports, and performs other contract administration tasks.
  • Assists with the development of job specific discipline specifications.
  • Assists in the evaluation and selection of mechanical equipment and materials.
  • Attends project coordination meetings with internal team members, external consultants and clients.
  • Participates in value engineering and basic cost estimating.
  • Performs calculations to analyze and design mechanical systems using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards for a mining environment.
  • Understanding of all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions using sound professional judgment.
  • Ability to check others work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings and other similar material.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with CAD design software is considered a benefit.
  • Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the design team.
  • Effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies.
  • Professional Engineering membership, in good standing, with one of Canada's provincial associations.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5 to 20 years of industry experience.

Working Conditions

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Working in a 50/50 hybrid home/office environment is an option.

Field work may include exposure to the elements, underground work and may involve travel outside of normal working hours.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
