Summary
The Mechanical Engineer designs mechanical components and assemblies in a cost effective manner that meets customer specifications and necessary product performance for automated welding equipment and Additive Manufacturing Systems. This job description indicates the general nature and level of the work that is expected. It is not a comprehensive or all-inclusive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities. Work Environment
Responsibilities associated with this position are typically performed in an office setting or designated administrative area and requires occasional visits to customer facilities, vendor facilities and trade shows/conferences. Frequent movement through industrial or manufacturing areas is required along with the use of appropriate personal protective wear and consistent observance of established safety policies at all times. Applicants must be able to work on-site a minimum of 3 days per week.
Primary Responsibilities
Design machine components and tooling with proper mechanical fit and tolerance, based on customer specifications.
• Work with external vendors to specify commercially available parts and supplement custom designs.
• Clearly document engineering calculations and decisions, referencing existing designs when applicable.
• Coordinate relevant work with the Applications, Electrical, Software, Process, and Manufacturing departments.
• Present finalized mechanical designs to customers during formal design reviews.
• Create technical drawings in ASME style for fabrication and assembly.
• Check the work of other Mechanical Engineers prior to release for manufacture.
• Maintain engineering records in accordance with our design, release, and revision processes.
• Support Manufacturing throughout the build process, and document the as-built changes.
• Support machine manual generation by identifying spare parts and communicating design intent.
• Continuously review products and suggest cost reductions for new and existing designs.
• Respond to customer and/or fabricator questions when applicable.
Minimum Requirements
5+ years of mechanical design experience, specifically in OEM or capital equipment
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering OR an additional 5 years of relevant experience
• Experience using Creo/Pro-E modeling software; Experience with FEA in Creo would be a notable advantage
• Experience checking mechanical drawings with advanced GD&T
• Experience documenting engineering calculations and design changes for future reference & presentation
• Preferred: Experience in cost reduction activities, e.g. DFM, DFA
