Description

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and drivenMechanical Engineer to serve as the Mechanical Discipline Lead for large capital facility expansion projects. In this role, you will independently manage the mechanical engineering scope across the entire project lifecycle-from early FEL-2 scope development and FEL-3/FEED through detailed design, construction, and commissioning.

This is a project discipline-lead role. You will be accountable for defining scopes, specifying static and rotating equipment, and providing technical leadership to our engineering and EPC partners. The ideal candidate is a dependable, proactive self-starter who takes full ownership of their discipline, does not wait to be told what to do, drives standardization, and collaborates seamlessly across cross-functional teams to ensure project success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Discipline Leadership: Serve as the Mechanical Discipline Lead for assigned capital projects. Define the mechanical scope and deliverables for each project phase, including FEL-2 scope development and FEL-3/FEED equipment specifications to support project cost estimates.
  • Contractor & Vendor Management: Provide technical leadership to the mechanical teams of our engineering and EPC partners. Review, ensure quality, and approve specifications, datasheets, calculations, drawings, 3D models, and other deliverables prepared by engineering partners and equipment vendors.
  • Technical Design & Specification: Specify static and rotating equipment for required services, including the selection of appropriate materials of construction. Establish applicable codes, standards, and design requirements, ensuring strict compliance with regulatory, safety, and company policies.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate closely with the Nexus Project Manager and EPC Project Manager to maintain alignment on scope, priorities, interfaces, quality, and schedule. Work collaboratively with other disciplines including Process, Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls (I&C), Piping, Civil/Structural/Architectural (CSA), Construction, and Commissioning teams.
  • Risk Management: Identify mechanical risks early in the project lifecycle, develop robust mitigation plans, and clearly communicate recommendations and decisions to project and senior leadership. Make sound, independent project-level mechanical decisions while recognizing when specialist input or leadership escalation is appropriate.
  • Standardization & Continuous Improvement: Develop, implement, and maintain standards, procedures, and templates where gaps exist to improve quality, consistency, repeatability, and standardization across all future projects.
  • Lifecycle & Safety Support: Ensure designs are safe for field erection and operation with constructability, operability, and maintainability in mind. Participate in Management of Change (MOC) reviews, PHA Action Requests, and Change Order Requests.
  • Travel: Potential to travel to other Nexus locations or vendor sites as required (~20%).

Minimum Requirements:
  • Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: 7-10+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, with demonstrated experience leading the mechanical discipline on large capital projects within the chemical-process, petrochemical, or advanced manufacturing industries.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of all mechanical-related industry codes and standards (e.g., API, ASME, ANSI) for static equipment (tanks, vessels), rotating equipment (pumps), and piping systems.
  • Project Execution: Proven ability to independently lead and manage engineering contractors (EPCs) and vendors through all phases of capital project execution.

Desired Skills:
  • Extreme Ownership: A highly dependable self-starter who takes full ownership of their work, takes initiative independently, and drives tasks to completion without waiting for direction.
  • Communication: Strong cross-functional communication skills, capable of effectively interacting up, down, and across the organization.
  • Agility: Ability to manage multiple project priorities on different timelines in a fast-paced, purpose-driven, and collaborative environment.
  • Curiosity: Demonstrates a strong desire to learn proprietary manufacturing processes and optimize systems for operability and reliability.

  • Medical, Dental and Vision coverage at 100% for employee only levels.
  • Multiple comprehensive coverage levels for Medical, Dental, & Vision
  • Group Health & Wellness Program, plus special savings on retail items, travel, entertainment, and more through Insperity Works
  • Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts
  • Basic and AD&D Life Insurance
  • Voluntary benefits, including short-term and long-term disability insurance, accident, critical illness, and hospital confinement insurance.
