Position Overview
The Mechanical Engineer III, Operations Engineering provides technical support to a large operating fleet of wind energy projects with emphasis on addressing the reliability and performance challenges associated with wind turbine drivetrain components, conducting root cause analyses, and advancing subject matter expertise and processes in the company.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the monitoring of gears, bearings, generators, and oil and debris sensors within wind turbine drivetrain systems
  • Assess damage to major components, categorize severity, and provide repair or troubleshooting dispositions
  • Build out and provide customer reports of alerts and recommendations, tracking key metrics and successes
  • Track major component repairs, including the collection of repair reports and the updating of a failure log
  • Schedule and review End of Warranty inspections for major drivetrain components and file necessary claims with wind turbine OEMs
  • Help build and develop the capabilities of in-house repair teams
  • Lead pilot projects to evaluate new equipment, tools, or processes
  • Source hard-to-find parts for aging wind turbines
  • Visit sites to conduct special inspections, failure investigations, or provide training
  • Some travel (< 25%) and moderate field work may be required

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or relevant physical science
  • Four to six years of relevant industry experience
  • Strong interest and understanding of mechanical and electrical systems
  • Strong time-management and/or project-management skills
  • Desire to work in a dynamic environment alongside people with multiple interests and backgrounds
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products and able to quickly acclimate to new software
  • Demonstrated interest in renewable energy.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Skills

  • Master’s degree in a technical discipline is preferred
  • Experience with wind turbines, equipment reliability, bearings, condition-monitoring software or vibration analysis, or CMMS software is a plus
  • Experience with data access, storage and servers
  • Experience working with large data sets and performing statistical analysis is a plus

Base Pay

$100,000.00 - $120,000.00 USD Annual
Bonus: 20% - 30%

The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Invenergy considers a number of factors when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education and skills.
