Job Description

The role of the Mechanical Engineer II is to conceptualize and design automated equipment according to customer and internal specifications; capable of being the Mechanical Engineering Lead on small to medium size machines ($550K - $1.5M), or any size replication project

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Primary:
  • Design cam, servo, and air operated stations and to make changes to existing designs.
  • Execute cam (drive) design.
  • Ensure the design is functional, robust and cost effective.
  • Innovate and use good judgment to incorporate ATS Life Sciences Chicago standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Research and specify appropriate materials and purchased components.
  • Create detail drawings, assembly drawings, bill of materials, organize release packages and update drawings.
  • Participate in internal and customer design reviews.
  • To prepare pneumatic and timing diagrams and select appropriate sensors.
  • Work with suppliers to find/develop the most functional and economical solutions to design issues.
  • Work under the confines of the project schedule and budget.
  • Problem-solve design or detail issues and update all appropriate documentation.
  • Communicate ideas and comprehend information both verbally and in written form.
  • Assimilate well within a team and exhibit objectivity and openness to others' views.
  • Follow all policy and procedures to adhere to International Standardization Organization (ISO) certification requirements.
  • Help guide and mentor Level I Mechanical Engineers with the execution of their designs and projects.


Secondary:
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of ATS LSS Chicago internal and international standards.
  • Prioritize, plan, and organize work and workspace.
  • Full compliance to the terms and conditions within the employee signed work from home policy.
  • Set and maintain departmental goals in keeping with Company objectives.
  • Support and participate in quality management program.
  • Provide necessary documentation and support for machinery operating manuals.
  • Make recommendations for quality and cost improvements.
  • Keeps abreast of current product developments.
  • Travel or extend workday if required.
  • Adhere to International Standardization Organization (ISO) standards.
  • Comply with all ATS Company policies.
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • College degree in mechanical engineering, technology or equivalent experience.
  • Two to six (2-6) years of automation experience.
  • Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD, 3D Solid Works, or similar CAD systems.
  • Proficient with computers, including programs such as AutoCAD, Solid Works, Microsoft Office suite, etc.
  • Can operate fax machine, copiers and printers/plotters, etc.
  • Proficient with inspection and measuring tools such as scales, calipers, micrometers, etc.


JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
  • The employee may be required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
  • Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
  • Visual acuity - Normal requirements for reading written instructions and computer screens.
  • Hearing ability - Normal requirements for understanding verbal instructions.
  • Working conditions - The employee is subject to a normal office environment with occasional exposure to high noise levels and/or physical hazards when visiting manufacturing floor.
  • Capable of wearing appropriate related PPE for extended periods of time
