Mechanical Engineer II
Key job responsibilities
- Design and detail mechanical components and assemblies for robotic hand, forearm, and actuator systems using CAD (SolidWorks or equivalent)
- Generate engineering drawings, BOMs, and assembly documentation to support prototype builds
- Support prototype fabrication, assembly, and integration of multi-DOF robotic mechanisms
- Perform tolerance analysis, material selection, and basic structural/thermal calculations to inform design decisions
- Collaborate with electrical, firmware, and controls engineers to ensure mechanical designs meet system-level requirements
- Conduct hands-on testing, failure analysis, and design iteration based on test results
- Maintain clear engineering documentation (design reports, test procedures, change logs)
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- BS degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- 3+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of SolidWorks or similar CAD experience and understanding of best practices for part design, and advanced assemblies
- Experience with prototyping methods (CNC machining, 3D printing, sheet metal)
- Familiarity with common mechanical components: gears, bearings, fasteners, seals, actuators
- Hands-on experience assembling and testing mechanical hardware
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools
- Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
- Experience in robotics, mechatronics, or precision mechanism design
- Knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
- Exposure to FEA tools (ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, or equivalent)
- Experience managing vendor relationships for prototype or low-volume production parts
- Familiarity with tendon-driven mechanisms, compliant mechanisms, or multi-DOF linkages
- Experience working in a lab/protoshop environment alongside electronics and firmware teams
The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
