We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop mechanical systems for our robotic platform. You'll own the mechanical design of enclosures, mounting systems, cable routing, sensor integration, and peripheral assemblies like our autonomous charging dock.
This is a hands-on, CAD-intensive role. You'll spend your time designing parts, building assemblies, and iterating quickly through prototype build cycles. You'll work closely with electrical engineers on component packaging and thermal integration, with industrial designers on form factor and aesthetics, and with the broader platform team to solve mechanical problems that span subsystems.
The right person for this role is a strong mechanical designer who moves quickly in CAD, thinks in terms of systems and constraints, and is comfortable owning the physical integration of electronics, sensors, and cables into compact assemblies. You're equally at home designing a precision alignment feature for a charging interface and routing a cable harness through a tight volume.
Key job responsibilities
- Own mechanical design of peripheral systems and accessories for the robotic platform, from concept through prototype validation
- Design and maintain complex assemblies in Onshape with clean parametric architecture that supports rapid iteration
- Solve packaging and integration problems: fitting electronics, sensors, connectors, and cables into compact, serviceable enclosures
- Develop cable routing and harness packaging solutions within tight volume and serviceability constraints
- Drive rapid prototyping cycles using 3D printing, CNC machining, and other methods to validate designs quickly
- Collaborate with electrical engineers on component placement, thermal paths, and mechanical interfaces to PCBAs
- Work with industrial designers to resolve form, fit, and manufacturability tradeoffs without compromising design intent
- Perform tolerance analysis and manage fit/function across multi-part assemblies
- Manage prototyping vendor relationships and support DFM reviews as designs mature toward production
- Maintain design documentation and participate in design reviews across the team
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working cross functionally with tech teams
- 3+ years of mechanical engineering experience in product development
- Proficiency in 3D CAD (Onshape preferred) with ability to build complex, well-structured parametric models and assemblies
- Experience designing parts for rapid prototyping (3D printing, CNC machining) and iterating through prototype build cycles
- Strong 2D drawing skills with working knowledge of GD&T
- Experience with mechanical packaging of electronics including PCB mounting, connector integration, and cable routing
- Experience with tolerance stack-up analysis and fit/function verificationx
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience with DFM for injection molded parts including draft, wall thickness, and tooling considerations
- Experience designing sensor mounts or integration hardware for cameras, LiDAR, or other perception sensors
- Experience with cable harness design, routing, and connector selection for electromechanical systems
- Thermal management experience: heatsink design, airflow analysis, thermal interface material selection
- Familiarity with additional manufacturing processes (die casting, sheet metal, urethane casting)
- Exposure to structural simulation or FEA for part validation
- Experience working across EVT/DVT build cycles in a product development context
- Background in robotics, consumer electronics, or other compact electromechanical product development
