Job Description:
The Mechanical Engineer produces detailed, fully coordinated construction drawings and performs complex engineering calculations across HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems. You will join a highly technical design team delivering mission-critical projects, working with internal and external project partners from concept through construction documents. This role suits an analytical engineer who communicates clearly and holds a high standard for technical accuracy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design HVAC systems for highly technical environments such as data centers, labs, and healthcare facilities
- Design plumbing systems, including domestic water, sanitary, vent, and specialty piping
- Support performance-based fire protection and controls design
- Perform code analysis and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards
- Conduct psychrometric analysis and review equipment selections and sizing criteria
- Perform engineering studies, including:
- Cooling and heating load calculations
- Ventilation calculations
- Air balance summaries
- CFD modeling
- Duct static pressure calculations
- Pump head calculations
- Load curtailment strategies
- Co-simulation
- Produce detailed construction drawings coordinated across all disciplines
- Coordinate with internal and external team members to keep projects on track
- Communicate project goals, challenges, and schedules to project teams and business partners
- Participate in ongoing training and continuous learning initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Experience/Skills:
- 3 to 7 years of mechanical design experience, preferably in an MEP consulting environment
- Hands-on Autodesk Revit experience
- Experience with design and analysis tools such as Bluebeam, Trace 3D Plus, Pipe-Flo, and Hands Down Psychrometrics
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines with consistent on-time delivery
- Proven success working with all levels of management
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to perform well in a fast-paced, occasionally high-pressure environment
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.; visa sponsorship (including H-1B) is not available for this role
Nice-to-Haves:
- Experience designing HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for data centers, healthcare, laboratory, pharmaceutical, or industrial facilities
- CFD software experience (FloEFD, TileFlow, 6SigmaDCX, STAR-CCM+, or similar)
- E.I.T. certification
- PE license or active pursuit of licensure
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering field (required)
