Job Overview by Ladders

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of mechanical engineering experience in energy storage systems (BESS).
  • Proficient in thermal management design, validated through testing.
  • Knowledge of safety codes for energy storage siting, specifically NFPA 855.
  • Experience in evaluating vendor systems beyond their datasheets.
  • Practical experience in supporting field deployment of mechanical designs.
  • Bonus skills: understanding of lithium-ion thermal behavior, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and fire suppression interfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer mechanical designs for energy storage BESS enclosures and thermal management.
  • Own the thermal design for container cooling across various climates.
  • Integrate energy storage mechanically on-site, ensuring compliance with space and access requirements.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of vendor systems against real-world performance.
  • Ensure that designs adhere to safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Benefits

  • Commitment to pay equity and transparency in compensation practices.
Full Job Description
Role Scope
  • Engineer mechanical design for energy storage: BESS enclosures, thermal management, and site integration behind the meter.
  • Own thermal design: cooling for containers and enclosures across climates, validated rather than vendored.
  • Integrate storage mechanically into the campus: pads, clearances, fire separation, and service access engineered.
  • Review vendor systems hard: what the datasheet claims versus what the fleet will live with.
What We're Looking For
  • The below is a starting point. We always make space for exceptional people, so if you don't fit this role exactly, tell us where you would.
  • You've done mechanical engineering for BESS, power electronics, or thermal-critical enclosures.
  • You've engineered thermal management validated by test.
  • You know the safety codes shaping storage siting, NFPA 855 among them, and design to them.
  • You evaluate vendor equipment beyond the brochure.
  • You've supported field deployment of your designs.
  • Bonus: Lithium-ion thermal behavior. CFD. Fire suppression interfaces. Utility-scale storage projects.

We are committed to pay equity and transparency.
