Mechanical Designer

WHAT YOU’LL DO:  

Role: 

CoolIT Systems, Inc. is hiring a full time Mechanical Designer.  The Mechanical Designer will be responsible for creating and maintaining 3D models, manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and engineering documentation for liquid cooling infrastructure solutions. Working under the guidance of Mechanical Engineers and Technical Leads, the Mechanical Designer converts engineering requirements, concepts, and calculations into release ready documentation and manufacturable designs.

The role focuses on detailed design execution, design quality, documentation accuracy, and configuration management while supporting design development, manufacturing, and configuration activitie

Responsibilities: 

  • Create and maintain 3D part and assembly models and 2D fabrication, assembly, and installation drawings using SolidWorks & Revit BIM, ensuring models and drawings are complete, accurate, and manufacturable.
  • Ensure drawings comply with drafting standards, GD&T requirements, and company design practices.
  • Support design reuse through standardization of components and assemblies.
  • Create and maintain Bills of Material. Creates and manages piping & electrical component schedules.
  • Develop detailed mechanical designs for TCS components and sub‑assemblies (e.g., valve trains, headers, spools, expansion tanks, support brackets, drip trays, and mounting hardware) based on established architectures and requirements.
  • Produce supporting mechanical documentation such as P&IDs, piping routing drawings, and interface details in accordance with requirements and design intent.
  • Develop and produce packaging designs & drawings for piping and assemblies
  • Update and revise design documentation through the ECR/ECN process.
  • Support production with drawing clarification, revision requests and issue resolution.
  • Support install/commissioning readiness by defining mounting/bracketing, mechanical loading/moments/alignment requirements at connection ports, and site execution assumptions.
  • Maintain accurate product configurations and released documentation.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Design Technology, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience in mechanical design engineering.
  • Proficiency in using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks & Revit) to create detailed mechanical designs & drawings.
  • Experience creating manufacturing drawings.
  • Direct knowledge of current AWS/ASME welding standards. 

Skills:

  • Experience with rapid prototyping manufacturing techniques and testing of thermal/mechanical components; familiarity with lab equipment for data collection (Preferred).
  • Experience with piping and cable routing in a 3D CAD environment (Preferred).
  • Excellent time management skills and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to apply engineering principles to the design release process (e.g., GD&T and statistical tolerance analysis).
  • Strong sense of urgency and responsiveness.
  • Ability to lead the design and development of complex mechanical piping systems.
  • Capacity to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Aptitude for continuous improvement in design and manufacturing processes.
  • Capability to perform advanced simulations and analyses.
