Job Overview
The Mechanical Design Supervisor is responsible for designing complex mechanical systems for underground mining equipment using advanced techniques and technologies. This role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining advanced mechanical systems and strategies, providing technical leadership, and mentoring team members in mechanical system design and analysis. The Mechanical Design Supervisor will also lead functional teams and projects.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Supervise the design of and designs complex mechanical systems for underground mobile mining equipment using advanced software tools such as SolidWorks to create 3D layouts, drawings and schematics of parts, assemblies, and technical renderings.
- Create detailed drawings and BOMs to capture, process, dimensions, inspection and other pertinent engineering information utilizing knowledge of engineering principles and applicable design standards and EHS regulations.
- Develop, implement, and maintain advanced mechanical systems and strategies for underground mining equipment.
- Provide technical leadership in the design and implementation of mechanical components and systems.
- Develop and implement new mechanical system solutions tailored to specific mining equipment and operational needs.
- Provide training, guidance, and direction to team members in mechanical system design and implementation.
- Offer expert advice to management and stakeholders on mechanical system implementation strategies.
- Maintain current knowledge of emerging technologies and industry trends.
- Solve complex integration issues and provide training, guidance, and direction to other team members.
- Produce high-quality documentation that meets or exceeds industry standards for complex systems.
- Lead regulatory compliance efforts, establishing best practices and ensuring adherence to the highest standards of safety, quality, and legality in mechanical design.
- Manage complex, multifaceted/interrelated projects and determine resource requirements for multi-faceted or multi-stage projects.
- Apply recognized project management methodology to manage scope, resources, time, cost, quality, risk, and communications.
- Provide guidance and direction to others in manufacturing processes, safety in product design, and serviceability.
- Ensure documentation and decisions are made correctly to avoid impairing the ability to deliver products to customers on time and to specifications.
Qualifications/Requirements
- BS Mechanical Engineering or Diploma Mechanical Engineering Technology. or C.Eng. Tech; Masters considered an asset.
- 5+ years of experience with the design of underground heavy mobile equipment.
- The incumbent may be required to travel periodically, occasionally to remote locations
- Office setting; some travel to mines, NPD & Test & Validation sites
- Valid passport and driver's license with ability to travel globally for customer support requirements.
- Strong familiarity with emerging technologies and trends.
- Ability to develop and implement innovative solutions to complex mechanical system challenges.
- Is independent and has expert knowledge of manufacturing processes, safety in product design, and serviceability.
- Competent in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, MATLAB)
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical drawings and assemblies.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to mechanical systems for underground mining equipment.
- Advanced understanding of mechanical system & mechanical system integration and the ability to design and implement complex mechanical system integration solutions.
- Experience in system testing and validation using advanced testing equipment and techniques.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical system issues using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in designing and implementing custom mechanical system integration solutions.
Compensation Range
At Komatsu, base pay is just one part of a comprehensive total compensation package designed to support and reward our employees.
For this role, the annual base compensation range is $110,000.00 to $135,000.00 CAD. The final offer will be determined based on several factors, including the candidates' skills, experience, qualifications, and the position location.
