Collins Aerospace is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join the Lighting design team in Phoenix, AZ. This position will work collaboratively with our team and others to design, develop and maintain designs for high-quality, and reliable lighting products for the commercial aerospace industry. As a mechanical engineer in our department, you will be responsible for working with other engineering disciplines, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality to help sustain existing product or develop new products. This role will include regularly working in a 3D modeling environment, troubleshooting complex problems, developing solutions, and communicating outcomes. The candidate would ideally be familiar with aerospace design processes, and procedures such as DO-160. This position requires a commitment to professional working hours for an onsite position. Candidate must be a commutable distance from Phoenix, AZ.

What You Will Do:
  • Lead new or derivative aerospace lighting system mechanical designs of parts and assemblies in a 3D modeling environment.
  • Lead sustainability actions for existing in-field product working with supply chain and manufacturing to ensure continued life cycle of the product.
  • Creation and/or support of technical and manufacturing documentation.
  • Cooperation within an integrated product or program team responsible to a program manager and associated metrics.
  • Aligning product definition and scope with customer requirements, military aerospace requirements, and/or commercial aerospace requirements.
  • Internal collaboration with engineering team, management team, supply chain team, production team and working within international Project teams.
  • External collaboration with vendors and customers to ensure product spec compliance.
  • Participate or lead special tasks such as FEA analyses or thermal analyses.
  • Participate in estimates of effort hours and development strategies for new or pending efforts.
  • Engage in financial or business strategic discussions to locate key vendors, design to cost targets, improve lead times, or consider alternate parts and vendors.
  • Participate in resolution of customer or production issues as they are introduced.
  • Assign tasks to technical draftsmen.
  • Balance workload priorities with management.
  • This position could require 10-15% travel, based on business needs.


Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
  • Prior experience with manufacturing methods & limitations (i.e. sheet metal fabrication, machining, casting, plastic molding, etc.)
  • Experience with 3D parametric modeling in CAD tools such (e.g. CATIA, Solidworks, etc.).
  • Experience in CAD drawing creation combine
  • Prior work experience working cross functionally with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain departments.
  • Previous experience with mechanical engineering analyses


Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Understanding of thermodynamics & heat transfer and its application in electronics cooling
  • Ability to work internationally with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in aerospace design and qualification
  • Skilled in CATIA CAD modeling and drawings

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
