Full Job Description
The Meta Robotics Hardware team is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with an emphasis on lightweight battery pack design, thermal management, performance testing, and bringing battery designs from concept to product release. This role will be part of a ME team responsible for consumer humanoid development at Meta. Candidates should be experienced working in a high ambiguity, ever evolving environment where full system requirements are seldom known. This team is dedicated to building hardware that enables learning through data collection and testing.

Responsibilities

Mechanical engineering and packaging for lightweight, swappable battery technology. Reliability, safety, and weight are critical requirements
• Planning and executing on performance, validation, endurance, and life cycle testing
• Troubleshooting root-cause of mechanical failures, implementing improved designs, testing effectiveness of change
• Lead CM's and Scaling partners paving the way for high volume production when projects mature
• Collaborate closely with reliability team to implement best practices for high-reliability mechanical and electrical design
• Build subsystem test fixtures, design tests, create test plans, perform tests, measure and analyze data, and refine design assumptions
• Collaboration: Work closely with a cross-functional team of engineers (EE, SW, Firmware) to deliver complete technical solutions
• Design of battery docking and interface components
• Design of other humanoid robot systems as needed

Minimum Qualifications
• 8+ years experience in Mechanical Design Engineering
• BS degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
• Experience with lightweight custom battery development
• Thermal management of battery and related electronics
• Experience in DOE's, performance, validation testing
• Experience with SOLIDWORKS, Siemens NX or similar CAD tools
• Experience with prototyping manufacturing processes and materials
• Experienced with managing time-sensitive projects through to completion while balancing evolving priorities and a broad range of stakeholders
• Experience in tolerance analysis, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
• Experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) - Static structural analysis, modal analysis

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in Robotics and consumer electronic product design
• Experience driving and leading projects from cradle to grave
• Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
• Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
• Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
