Staff/Senior Staff Engineer - Mechanical Analysis LA An innovative aviation leader developing sustainable, low-emission flight technology is seeking a Staff or Senior Staff Mechanical Analyst. This role is responsible for the structural analysis of prototype and certification-conforming mechanical systems. Key qualifications include extensive experience analyzing structural systems for aircraft certification programs. Location On-site at headquarters in LA, CA. Key Responsibilities Perform structural analysis on primary and secondary aircraft components, including engine mounts, cowlings, fairings, ducts, and aeroshells. Use hand calculations as the primary verification step for all structural analyses. Develop and run static and dynamic finite element models (NASTRAN or equivalent) for components and major assemblies. Conduct structural loads, vibration, and crashworthiness analyses on flight-critical hardware. Produce analysis and write substantiation reports suitable for submittal to the FAA or Designated Engineering Representatives (DERs). Create and refine standardized stress analysis templates to streamline future certification workflows. Collaborate with systems, propulsion, and integration engineering teams to align structural models with evolving design inputs. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. 5+ years of progressive experience in aircraft structural analysis and validation. Expert knowledge of aircraft structural analysis methods incorporating hand calculations, CAD, and FEA. Advanced understanding of drafting standards and ANSI Y14.5. Deep familiarity with metallic and composite aircraft structural materials, as well as MMPDS guidelines. Working knowledge of FAA regulations and compliance standards for structural airworthiness. Proficiency with SolidWorks, NASTRAN FEA, and standard productivity tools. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering. 10+ years of direct experience in structural analysis. FAA Structural DER status or candidate capability. Hands-on involvement in aircraft programs that successfully completed FAA Part 23 certification. Experience with structural qualification testing and requirements management software. Familiarity with Altair software tools and thermal considerations for engine nacelle design.
