Job Summary

The Maternal Health Nurse Specialist provides specialized nursing and clinical expertise to support Minnesota's maternal health work, with a primary work portfolio focused currently on maternal mortality and severe maternal morbidity. The position serves as the lead clinical abstractor for the Maternal Mortality Review Committee, provides clinical leadership and quality assurance for maternal mortality case review, and supports the development of statewide approaches to severe maternal morbidity.

The position applies advanced nursing, clinical, and public health knowledge to interpret maternal mortality and morbidity findings, support development of evidence-informed recommendations, and translate findings into opportunities for clinical practice improvement, quality improvement, and prevention. The position works collaboratively with epidemiologists, planners, health care providers and systems, community partners, and other maternal health initiatives to improve maternal health outcomes in Minnesota.

In accordance withHR/LR Policy #1422 Telework, this position is eligible for up to 50% telework for applicants who live in Minnesota or in a bordering state within 50 miles of the assigned work location. Candidatesresidingoutside of Minnesota further than 50 miles of the assigned work location at the time of application must be able torelocateto Minnesota within 30 days of their start date. The telework policy may exempt employees who live more than 50 miles from their primary work location from the 50% in-office requirement, depending on job requirements, helping the State of Minnesota access top talent across the state.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Current Registered Nurse Licensure in the State of Minnesota.

AND

Three (3) years of experience in a healthcare setting related to maternal and child health, perinatal, obstetrics, and/or postpartum care in positions that include one of the following:

  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Charge Nurse (must include at least two years as a RN Charge Nurse)
  • Registered Nurse Supervisor
  • Director of Nursing
  • Healthcare Administrator
  • Board of Nursing


Experience must include the following:

  • Experience providing clinical consultation, training, or technical assistance to health care or public health professionals.
  • Experience working collaboratively with diverse communities and multidisciplinary partners.
  • Experience writing reports, one-pagers, and additional documents.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience conducting medical record abstraction, clinical case review, quality review, or similar work involving interpretation of complex clinical information.
  • Experience working in public health or population health.
  • Experience or knowledge related to maternal mortality review, severe maternal morbidity, or maternal health quality improvement.
  • Experience interpreting and presenting maternal health data and implications to multidisciplinary audiences.

Additional Requirements
  • This employment does not require a valid driver's license, but it does demand travel across Greater Minnesota, which the candidate willbe responsible formeeting.
  • This position requires successful completion of a background check and employment reference check.
