Job Summary:The Sonographer is responsible for performing ultrasound examinations and providing high-quality patient care during procedures. This role involves obtaining patient histories, preparing patients for examinations, explaining procedures, and operating ultrasound equipment. The Sonographer works closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate imaging and interpretation while maintaining patient safety, comfort, and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:- Ensure two points of patient identification are obtained, prepare the patient for examination, and gather relevant patient history.
- Review patient charts for pertinent clinical history, test results, and laboratory data to ensure accurate interpretation of ultrasound exams.
- Explain procedures to patients, considering their physical and emotional needs while adhering to ethical standards, including patient confidentiality and professional conduct.
- Perform OB scans effectively, delivering the highest standards of patient care to ensure the most remarkable patient experience.
- Provide patient care within the scope of the license and training.
- Follow universal precaution techniques and safety measures specific to the patient's condition.
- Operate all ultrasound equipment efficiently and notify appropriate personnel of any malfunctions or required repairs.
- Cooperate and communicate effectively with all personnel to promote harmony within the department.
- Complete necessary paperwork and reporting functions for each patient exam.
- Prepare and maintain the equipment, room, and supplies for each patient exam and ensure the department is stocked as needed.
- May oversee and instruct other personnel and technology students within the department.
- Participate in research programs, quality assurance, and quality improvement projects within the department.
- Remain flexible regarding shift coverage and overtime as necessary.
- Stay up to date on developments in imaging techniques, procedures, and equipment by participating in education programs and meeting state and national continuing education requirements.
- Transport and transfer patients using established procedures according to departmental guidelines.
- Exercise independent judgment and initiative in a variety of situations when performing patient exams.
- Perform all other duties as directed.
Required Qualifications:- Completion of an accredited ultrasound technology program.
- Certification or registry with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or equivalent certification.
- Strong knowledge of ultrasound equipment and techniques.
- Ability to explain procedures to patients while maintaining patient care standards.
- Ability to work under pressure, using independent judgment and initiative.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients and healthcare teams.
- Ability to work flexibly, including shift coverage and overtime as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience in OB/GYN ultrasound procedures.
- Experience working in a hospital or clinical setting.
- Additional certifications or continuing education in ultrasound technology or imaging techniques.
Certifications:- American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or equivalent certification.
- Additional certifications as required by the healthcare facility.
Education and Experience:- Required: Graduation from an accredited ultrasound technology program.
- Preferred: Experience in a clinical or hospital environment, particularly in OB/GYN ultrasound.
