Job Description
Position Summary:
The Superintendent is responsible for supporting the effective planning, coordination, and flow of materials to meet production schedules and customer requirements. The role oversees key materials functions, including material planning, inventory control, and shipping/receiving, while partnering closely with Production and other cross-functional teams to ensure material availability and minimize production disruptions. This role provides day-to-day leadership to the materials team, drives inventory accuracy and continuous improvement initiatives, supports the development and implementation of standardized processes, and serves as a key backup to the Materials Manager.
Essential Job Functions:
- Promote and lead a culture of safety across all operations.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Address safety risks and ensure timely resolution of safety concerns or incidents.
- Oversee daily operations within the assigned area to ensure safe and efficient production.
- Ensure operations are carried out in a safe, appropriate, and cost-effective manner.
- Maintain accountability for adherence to operational procedures and standardized work practices.
- Observe work activities to ensure compliance with company standards.
- Ensure production targets and schedules are achieved while maintaining quality standards.
- Monitor operational performance through key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Identify operational challenges and implement solutions to improve efficiency and productivity.
- Perform quality control oversight to ensure products meet customer and company specifications.
- Support and drive initiatives that improve operational processes and performance.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and operational improvements.
- Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, quality, and materials teams to resolve operational issues.
- Lead, coach, and develop supervisors and team members.
- Support employee training and development initiatives.
- Drive the performance management process for supervisor-level personnel.
- Coordinate activities across shifts to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- Support plant leadership initiatives and operational objectives.
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum five (5) years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Progressive experience managing production teams.
- Experience in automotive or Tier 1 supplier manufacturing.
- Experience supervising production supervisors or frontline leaders.
- Experience working in high-volume manufacturing environments.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing operations and operational management principles.
- Understanding of organizational effectiveness and operations management.
- Familiarity with business and financial principles impacting manufacturing performance.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to analyze operational data and production metrics to drive improvements.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field or equivalent experience.
