  • Perform failure mode analysis to identify root causes and improvement paths for performance, yields, and safety.

Role Purpose

  • Work with business partners to identify new materials solutions to address market needs in semiconductor technologies and/or aerospace and defense markets
  • Collaborate with R&D and manufacturing teams to identify, make, and scale new materials
  • Benchmark performance of competitive products, processes and alternative technologies
  • Supporting customer engagements by providing technical expertise and fundamentals


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop new materials product solutions and specifications to include glasses, glass-ceramics, and/or ceramic materials including nitride and carbide compounds.
  • Develop post-forming processes to meet product specifications, e.g finishing, shaping, ceraming
  • Understand materials attributes and linkages to composition and forming.
  • Design, analyze, and conduct validation experiments to generate material& process fundamentals. Includes leveraging appropriate characterization and measurements as well as developing and deploying statistical approaches and design of experiments (DOE)
  • Conduct failure mode analysis to determine root cause and identify path to improve performance, yields, costs and safety.
  • Work effectively in a collaborative team environment


Experiences/Education - Required

  • PhD in materials science, physics, chemistry or other relevant field, with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated deep knowledge and skills in understanding material system(s), chemistry and physics of interfaces and solving the related problem
  • Proven ability to define, execute, analyze, and communicate results from experiments
  • Proven ability to perform independent scientific work from concept to documentation
  • Ability to make data-driven decisions by combining analytical thinking with practical judgment
  • Ability to work effectively across disciplines and coordinate laboratory analysis and testing
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Direct laboratory experience with the equipment and test methods used in glass or ceramic melting, forming, and/or firing

The range for this position is $95,481.00 - $131,287.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
