Job Description
As a Materials and Processes Engineer you'll work on a broad range of projects, in both a laboratory and manufacturing environment, that will challenge you to learn and grow in your career. Working side by side with designers, test and manufacturing engineers, you'll use your education, experience and growing expertise to develop and evaluate new and innovative technology to survive in the most hostile of environments.
In this role you will:
• Lead small-group project teams to propose, select, qualify, and test composites for hyper-sonic projectiles and atmospheric re-entry vehicle applications
• Lead technical direction and execution of Thermal Protection System products technology readiness and manufacturing readiness increases through qualification and product certification
• Troubleshoot problems and find innovative solutions
• Prepare technical and progress reports on assigned tasks, prepare specifications, evaluate suppliers and analyze test reports. Present this information to Customers, subcontractors, and internal LM stakeholders.
• Lead technical projects and conduct meetings with internal engineering teams, Customer representatives and external suppliers to meet program objectives
• Review, and critique M&P technical documentation for application at LM and subcontractors. Recommend and ensure that corrective action is implemented when needed.
• Coordinate with other disciplines such as Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Engineering, and Procurement
We're looking for:
• Someone with proven experience resolving technical challenges, outlining required data gathering and formulating timely engineering determinations
• A motivated individual who's able to work closely within a geographically diverse team to resolve technical issues
• Someone with the ability to handle shifting priorities, multiple projects and timeline pressure to meet deadlines
• Experience with ablative thermal protection systems (TPS) or relevant technologies, with an emphasis on the applied manufacturing processes
• Experience with Material Review Board processes and Quality tracking systems (Q-note system)
• Experience with authoring and implementing manufacturing work instructions for processes in electronic, component/part, mechanical or materials fabrication
• Someone comfortable with communicating in a variety of forums including supplier interface
• The ability to work with management and program representatives at several levels
• Technical leadership of small teams or projects
• Proven ability to communicate key project information or recommendations to Program management and /or Customers

Basic Qualifications
• Materials or process related background and/or field of study with a focus in composites
• Formal coursework, training, experience and/or knowledge of fiber reinforced polymer matrix composites manufacturing and testing
• Experience with Material Review Board processes, dispositioning non-conformities with suppliers and Quality tracking systems (Q-note system)
• Experience with manufacturing work instructions for processes in electronic, component/part, mechanical or materials fabrication
• Eligibility/Willingness to obtain/maintain a Secret security clearance; US Citizenship required
Desired skills
• Demonstrated experience with composite selection and qualification for engineering applications
• Understanding of material properties definitions including allowables generation
• Experience reviewing engineering drawings and/or specifications and providing guidance to design, manufacturing, and stress engineers
• Knowledge of Materials and Processes for product development, improvement, design, application, and production
• Work experience using composite specifications (i.e. MIL-STD, AMS, etc.)
• Ability to outline failure analysis tasks related to failure of composite components
• Experience with high temperature materials and applications
• Experience establishing and implementing technical requirements (specifications, program plans/requirements, etc.)
• Knowledge of ablative TPS environmental and operational requirements for materials in space or missile applications
• Knowledge of general materials including metals, composites, polymers, or ceramics
• Experience working collaboratively with customers and teammates
• Influencing corporate and industry standards
• Good writing, communication and interpersonal skills
• Active or Current Secret clearance
Work Schedule Information
Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
National Pay Statement
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $104,500 - $184,115. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
