Materials Engineer - BWX Technologies, Inc. - Barberton, Ohio Position Overview:As the Materials Engineer you will provide the primary Engineering interface in support of the procurement of raw material commodities such as tubing, forgings, plate and castings, and providing metallurgical support for other procurements including fabricated assemblies.
Location:On-site in Barberton, Ohio with 30-40% travel to perform surveillance activities at a critical supplier near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Your Day to Day as a Materials Engineer:- Reviewing and interpreting customer technical specifications and requirements, merging with internal requirements and developing scope-specific technical ordering packages for our material procurements.
- Understanding and becoming expert on suppliers' production methods and capabilities.
- Working closely with Purchasing to review quotations and participate in supplier selection and development activities.
- Participating in supplier audits, surveillance of key operations at supplier facilities, and supporting efforts to de-risk the procurements. Position may require ability to support significant travel and/or extended assignments as a resident at key suppliers (foreign or domestic) on a rotating basis with others in the department.
- Working with a team of subject matter experts to verify that the suppliers' processing methods and procedures are in compliance with all applicable technical and administrative requirements to support the development of compliant product.
- Evaluating and supporting disposition of any discrepant material.
- Reviewing certifications and performing electronic system transactions in SAP and other business systems to manage work, ensure material traceability and release acceptable material to subsequent fabrication operations.
- Developing Bills of Material and participating in materials selection and drawing development exercises for new projects and assisting with the development of material cost and level-of-effort estimates in support of proposals.
- Supporting plant manufacturing operations on an as-needed basis by providing technical expertise on materials-related issues.
Required Qualifications:• Qualified candidates must possess a B.S. in Metallurgy, Material Science or equivalent.
• Three or more years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
• A successful candidate, beyond having the technical acumen, will demonstrate strong communication skills, attention to detail, agility to move between multiple ongoing projects, an unwavering quality-oriented mindset, a productive working relationship with suppliers and teammates and an ability to leverage team resources to achieve desired results.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must be a capable of receiving a DOE clearance.
Travel Requirements:- 30-40% travel to perform surveillance activities at a critical supplier near Philadelphia, Pannsylvania.
- This travel schedule will be in rotation with two others and are typically 1 week at a time, about every sixth week on average. Schedules are adjusted as needed to support production, coverage and surveillance needs.

Pay: $86,000 - $135,850
The base salary range for this position in Ohio (US-OH) at the start of employment is expected to be between $86,000 and $135,850 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,' unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
