Job DescriptionThe Opportunity: We are seeking a Marketing Regulatory Advisor to play a critical role in supporting Canadian Natural's market access and compliance efforts across a complex and evolving regulatory landscape. This position has been established to strengthen our internal expertise and ensure consistent alignment with regulatory requirements governing the transportation and sale of crude oil and natural gas across multiple jurisdictions.
Reporting to the Director of Market Development, the successful candidate will serve as a key liaison and subject matter expert, playing a key role in advancing Canadian Natural's transportation and market access strategy through active participation in pipeline regulatory and commercial processes across North America. This role is responsible for evaluating pipeline toll and regulatory proposals, developing strategic positions that protect and enhance our commercial interests, and representing the company in industry forums and regulatory proceedings.
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with strong commercial, analytical, and regulatory skills who is willing to challenge conventional approaches, influence industry outcomes, and collaborate with peers across the energy sector to drive continuous improvement in transportation service and cost structures. Key Accountabilities:- Represent the company at the forefront of the energy industry by participating in key industry committees and commercial negotiations that shape pipeline toll settlements across the natural gas and crude oil sectors
- Influence critical business decisions by developing strategic analyses and executive-level briefing materials on pipeline regulatory and commercial initiatives, clearly articulating business impacts, financial risks, opportunities, and recommended courses of action to senior leadership
- Lead high-impact regulatory advocacy efforts by preparing expert evidence and submissions for toll and regulatory proceedings before regulatory bodies (such as the CER, FERC, and AER) and serving as a key contributor in defending the company's position in complex regulatory hearings
- Drive innovation and challenge conventional thinking by critically evaluating existing pipeline tolling frameworks and settlement agreements (including NGTL, Westcoast, Enbridge), identifying opportunities to create greater value and improve commercial outcomes
- Build influential industry partnerships by collaborating with fellow shippers, industry associations such as CAPP and EPAC, and other stakeholders to advocate for modernized tolling structures, enhanced market efficiency, and reduced transportation costs for both the company and the broader industry
What You Bring to the Role:- Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or a related discipline; advanced degree or professional designation (e.g., MBA) is considered a strong asset
- Strong commercial acumen and understanding of pipeline transportation markets
- Proven experience in regulatory affairs, compliance, or energy marketing, with exposure to crude oil and/or natural gas pipelines across multiple jurisdictions
- Deep understanding of various regulatory frameworks and the ability to navigate complex, evolving legislation while balancing commercial objectives
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex information and translate it into strategic insights, influencing senior stakeholders and business outcomes
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with a track record of collaborating effectively across cross-functional teams and external partners
- Comfortable challenging the status quo and advocating for change where commercial value can be created
- Highly driven, adaptable, and detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results on high-impact initiatives
