The market director- North America Licensed Coffeehouses (NA LC) role contributes to business success by leading a portfolio of coffeehouses within specific archetypes across the United States. This role is responsible for delivering business growth, operational excellence, and exceptional customer and partner experiences through strong licensee partnerships and strategic business leadership.

This leader serves as the primary business owner for their portfolio, influencing outcomes across multiple licensee operators while partnering closely with cross-functional teams to execute enterprise priorities, strengthen operational performance, and accelerate long-term growth. The market director acts as a trusted advisor to licensees and a key connector between field realities and enterprise strategy.

As a market director you will...

  • Lead a portfolio of licensee partnerships across the US, driving profitable growth, operational excellence, and brand stewardship.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with executive and operational leaders within licensee organizations, serving as a trusted advisor and strategic partner.
  • Own business performance across the portfolio, leveraging data and insights to identify opportunities, address challenges, and deliver results.
  • Lead regular business reviews with licensees, aligning on priorities, action plans, and long-term growth strategies.
  • Ensure execution of Starbucks standards, programs, and initiatives while balancing the unique needs of specific archetype segments.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to remove barriers and drive business outcomes.
  • Influence new coffeehouse development, portfolio expansion opportunities, and business planning efforts within assigned accounts.
  • Identify and scale best practices across the specific archetype, helping strengthen consistency and performance across the licensed business.
  • Navigate complex business environments with multiple stakeholders, balancing relationship management, operational accountability, and enterprise priorities
  • Represent the voice of licensees within Starbucks, bringing insights, opportunities, and emerging business needs forward to influence strategy and decision-making.
  • Lead and develop a team of Coffeehouse Consultants across North America., driving capability, performance, and licensee business results


We'd love to hear from people with:

  • Proven experience in account management, business development, operations leadership, or strategic partnership management
  • Demonstrated success leading complex, multi-unit retail, grocery, franchise, licensed, or partner-operated businesses
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to drive growth, profitability, and operational performance
  • Executive-level communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build trust and drive alignment among internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience managing senior-level customer or partner relationships
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to leverage data and insights to drive decision-making
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, manage competing priorities, and deliver results in a matrixed organization
  • Experience collaborating across cross-functional teams to execute large-scale initiatives
  • Experience working across North American markets (U.S. and Canada) is a plus
  • 5+ years of experience leading partnerships, accounts, business operations, or large-scale retail businesses

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
