Responsibilities

Full Job Description

Our firm’s Maritime and Admiralty Law Practice has vast experience representing clients across the maritime industry, including ocean carriers, tug and barge owners, ferry companies, marinas, marine terminals and stevedores. We also represent various clients involved in inter-modal transportation including trucking entities, and owners and lessors of inter-modal equipment We are deeply connected to the maritime community and have an firm understanding of the maritime law. Our maritime attorneys practice in numerous state and federal courts along the East Coast and the Great Lakes and have an active trial and appellate practice.

 The ideal candidate will be admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey, including federal courts and will have at least one year of litigation experience, preferably in the field of maritime and transportation law.  We are also open to experienced, partner-level candidates. 

Responsibilities

  • Manage a litigation caseload from inception through resolution
  • Draft and respond to written discovery
  • Take and defend depositions
  • Prepare, draft, and argue motions
  • Participate in court appearances, status conferences, mediations, arbitrations, and other litigation proceedings
  • Develop case strategy and manage day-to-day litigation responsibilities
  • Communicate directly with clients, providing strategic counsel and regular case updates
  • Collaborate with attorneys across multiple offices and practice groups on complex and challenging matters
  • Assist with trial preparation and other high-stakes litigation activities

Qualifications

  • Admission to practice law in New York and New Jersey required.
  • 1+ years of defense litigation experience, maritime law and transportation law experience preferred.
  • Strong legal writing, research, analytical, and oral advocacy skills
  • Ability to independently manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational, case management, and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and eager to assume increasing responsibility

Preferred Experience

  • Insurance defense litigation, maritime law, transportation law preferred.
  • Experience handling depositions, motion practice, mediations, arbitrations, and court appearances
  • Experience managing matters independently

Base Salary Range: $135,000-$250,000

Actual compensation will be determined based on market location, as well as the candidate’s experience, skills, and job-related qualifications.
