Full Job Description
is actively seeking a highly motivated Senior-level Marine Electronics Engineer (Systems Integration) to act as electronics team lead and support the United States Coast Guard (USCG)'s Ship Design Team in Washington, DC. An ideal candidate will have prior experience with developing and integrating C5I shipboard systems in a U.S. Coast Guard or Navy environment.

Typical Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, test, and supervise the implementation of electronic equipment for shipboard use.
  • Conduct analyses on centralized machinery control systems, interior & exterior communications, sensors, alarms, navigation, combat fire control, and other C5ISR related systems.
  • Analyze and mitigate cybersecurity risks for installed systems and networks.
  • Apply knowledge of remote sensing, sensor processing and information processing for electronics components and systems.
  • Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
  • Apply knowledge of and experience with engineering principles and techniques, to develop and evaluate complex technical reports related to application of C5I systems onboard USCG ships.
  • Review and evaluate the effect of new and/or modified electronics on overall system performance.
  • Review and adjudicate system design specifications, test requirements, Departures from Specification (DFSs), Request for Waiver (RFW), Engineering Changes (ECs).

Location: Hybrid work schedule: Usually 3 days onsite/2 days remote each week at USCG Headquarters in Washington, DC.

Travel:Up to 10% travel to CONUS locations is anticipated for ship checks.

Typical Physical Activity: Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve: traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision.

Typical Pay Range: The anticipated pay range for this position in the identified location(s) is $110,000 - $160,000. Actual compensation offered will be based upon individual factors including education, qualifications, and experience.

Existing SECRET Security Clearance Required:This position requires an existing active or interim Secret security clearance prior to hire. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance; therefore, only current U.S. citizens will be considered for this position.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or another relevant technical, engineering, or a marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • At least eight (8) years of recent, relevant professional experience developing and integrating Machinery Control (including Electrical Power Management, Auxiliary Machinery Control, and Propulsion Control) and C5I systems (including Command-and-Control Systems, Navigation Systems, Internal Communications and External Communications Systems, Sensors and Radars, Combat Systems, and Intelligence Systems).
  • At least one (1) year of experience related to federal ship or boat building acquisition programs.
  • Familiarity with USN, USCG, ABS and/or commercial ship design rules and regulations.
  • Proficient with common productivity software.
  • Strong communication skills.

Additional Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Master's degree.
  • Prior experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs.
  • Previous experience with shipboard and defense C5I systems.
  • Meets DoD IAT Level II Baseline Certification requirements. This can be met by holding any ONE active certification from the following list:
    • CCNA Security
    • CySA+
    • GICSP
    • GSEC
    • Security+ CE
    • SSCP
    • CASP CE
    • Security-X CE
    • CCNP Security
    • CISA
    • CISSP (or Associate)
    • GCED
    • GCIH
  • Additional certifications, such as PE License, PMP, DHS Systems Engineering Certification, or DHS Program Management Certifications.
