The Role:As a
Manufacturing & Test Engineer at Voyis you will work on developing processes for assembly, calibration, and test all our underwater cameras and laser scanners. The role is focused on how we build our systems and ensure they perform consistently and reliably. You will leverage existing knowledge and expertise in high-complexity, low-volume manufacturing to improve our procedures, processes, and designs.
The role is the interface between design engineering and production teams and requires both deep technical knowledge and practical experience implementing successful procedures in a high-tech manufacturing environment. The goal is efficient and defect-free assembly with robust testing to ensure the highest standards of reliability in our underwater products. In particular this role will focus on how we calibrate and validate our camera and laser systems.
We are looking for someone who is keen to learn and grow with the role as we expand operations. We are a small team with lots of opportunities to solve interesting problems.
What you'll do:- Be a subject matter expert on assembly and testing of Voyis cameras, lights, and laser-scanners, understand the design intent, performance specs, and requirements for each system.
- Own the requirements, processes and the tooling for calibration and verification of Voyis products. Aim to improve efficiency and repeatability of key processes.
- Prepare SOPs and other process documentation to ensure product consistency and reliability.
- Triage issues that arise during manufacturing. Disposition non-conforming product and propose/coordinate rework where applicable.
- Interface with design engineering (HW & SW), production, quality, and our customers to align requirements for certification of our products.
- Manage changes and new processes from engineering or corrective actions, ensuring best practices are implemented across all teams.
Note this is an in-person role at our headquarters in Waterloo. There are opportunities for limited periods of remote work, however the job requires you to be here with the hardware and the teams that are building it.
Skills you will bring to the table:- 3+ years experience with high-tech assembly, testing, calibration (eg. optical systems, electronics, robotics)
- Proven experience with New Product Introduction (NPI), low-volume manufacturing, electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Background in optical, vision, electrical, or electro-mechanical systems as well as some experience with embedded computing technologies.
- Engineering degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Optics, Manufacturing or Quality.
- A proactive approach and eagerness to learn, total ownership of your work, and effective collaboration with teams across the organization
Bonus Points for:- Experience with computer vision tools such as OpenCV, image quality testing (eg. Imatest or similar), calibration software, photogrammetry tools (Metashape, 3DF Zephyr), and point cloud analysis packages (CloudCompare, PolyWorks).
- Experience with lasers and laser optics as well as their evaluation and calibration.
- Experience with electrical and mechanical design software such as Altium and SolidWorks.
- Experience developing software tooling or hardware test automations using Python, or similar scripting languages.
- Experience handling and testing PCBAs, using an oscilloscope, testing EMC/EMI.
The Perks:- Flexible work hours, lots of vacation, and a dedication to work-life balance
