Job Title: Manufacturing Services Systems Engineer

Working Pattern: Onsite 9/80

Working location: Indianapolis, IN

As the Manufacturing Services Systems Engineer, you will be recognized as an authoritative source of technical expertise and advice in a local area within a business and viewed as a key member of the broader team of technical expertise by senior capability leadership. You will be a specialist with depth and/or breadth of knowledge in your own discipline or field or may be a specialist in Rolls-Royce's products and solutions and how they are differentiated from the competition. You will also generate business benefits through the application of specialist technical knowledge within your expertise. In this role you will represent a critical resource to the "run and maintain" activity of a business, taking an active role in resolving current problems and supporting other technical specialists to advance knowledge in their capability area. Technically responsible for moderately sized projects relating to CNC machine tools and non-conventional machining - liaising with machine tool manufactures their agents and control suppliers to provide technical leadership to ensure the project delivered to the right quality, on time, and to budget.

  • Strategy: Supports the development and execution of the strategy with respect to their area of specialism; is regarded as a thought leader.
  • Project Definition: Leads the definition of capability projects including capturing requirements, creating proposals, achieving stakeholder approval, acquiring funding and aligning partner support.
  • Problem Solving: Leads the resolution of new and emerging technical, compliance and business problems using analytical processes and professional judgement.
  • Collaboration: Proactively accesses internal and external networks of fellow specialists to further the understanding of the specialist subject; supports the implementation of strategic collaborative relationships.
  • People Capability: Supports the definition of skill and professional knowledge within their area of specialism; identifies, co-ordinates and delivers training; supports the development of other specialists; provides active mentoring.
  • Standards Definition: Ensures appropriate policies, standards and best practices are defined, shared and adopted.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Leads the sharing of Best Practice; represents the area as an authority in their defined subject; provides concise justification for decisions; records and captures salient information in reports and systems.
  • Analyze equipment data to inform and implement the most effective approach towards maintenance
  • Collect, organize, and analyze data in support of Key Performance Indicators for the Manufacturing Services Department as required. Ability to process Work Orders and pull reports from the Computerized Maintenance Management System
  • Provide technical assistance relating to machine or process failure to skilled trades and other supporting functions. Coordinate with OEM and machine tool specialists as needed. If requested, support other business units within Rolls Royce and any manufacturing suppliers to Rolls Royce.
  • Establishing root causes of failures and putting in place a process to eliminate or reduce such occurrences improving asset availability and mean time between failure.
  • Suggest improvements to work instructions to optimize the electrical installation / maintenance strategy and coordinate systems activities with Production Staff, regularly communicating and interfacing with Production Leaders, Team Leaders, and Production Operators.
  • Technically responsible for moderately sized projects relating to CNC machine tools and non-conventional machining - liaising with machine tool manufactures their agents and control suppliers to provide technical leadership to ensure the project delivered to the right quality, on time, and to budget. Assisting in the specification, Factory acceptance protocol, Installation commissioning of new or replacement equipment, ensuring that the new equipment meets the required performance specification.
  • Systems engineering are directly involved in conjunction with Manufacturing Engineering, in the technical definition of control systems equipment and peripherals.
    • Typically a member of relevant professional body/institute at Fellow level (or equivalent).
    • A deep understanding of specialist subjects and proven ability to influence key decisions.
    • Understanding of Intellectual Property and Export Control requirements.
  • Assisting in the specification, Factory acceptance protocol, Installation commissioning of new or replacement equipment, ensuring that the new equipment meets the required performance specification.
  • Systems engineering is directly involved in conjunction with Manufacturing Engineering, in the technical definition of control systems equipment and peripherals.

Preferred:

  • High understanding of electrical, electronic systems, computer numerical control systems and a knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic systems
  • Take responsibility for their own training and development
  • Understanding of local and regional HSE Standards and regulations
  • Automation Engineering knowledge and the ability to trouble shoot those systems.
    • Design / recommend new ideas and designs for process improvements.
