Reports To: Director of Operations

Direct Reports: Supervisors, Manufacturing Engineers, Leads, SMEs, and Associates

Job Summary

Manages, directs, and coordinates all activities involving the chemical operations areas. Assures productivity goals are consistent with business profitability objectives, the associates' well-being, and all regulatory standards. Focus placed on improving safety, lead time reductions, on-time delivery, cost, and quality.

Essential Functions:
  • Responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operations in chemical operations including capacity planning, scheduling, inventory, resource allocation, productivity, yields, product quality and delivery performance assuring safe implementation thereof and compliance with all relevant regulations (e.g. ISO, FDA, OSHA, EPA-DEP, etc.) and company procedures.
  • Ensures all Chem Ops associates are fully oriented and trained; assure a safe work environment and that all practices are conducted in a safe and effective manner; manage with safety, associate well-being and environmental practices as a priority
  • Prioritizes areas of operational focus to best meet business objectives and customer commitments; support function-specific goals and implement continuous improvement programs as needed to achieve goals
  • Regularly monitors key department metrics; identifies and implements continuous improvement actions as warranted; makes identifiable and substantial contributions to continuous improvement of the process and product quality
  • Focus on continuous improvement activities; specifically on cost, safety and delivery
  • Provides appropriate input and supports product development as needed assuring smooth and robust transition to commercial production to support top line sales growth
  • Contributes to the identification of product processing procedures, based upon AR capabilities, capacity constraints, quality requirements, product cost, volume analysis, service flexibility, and new technology
  • Identifies and assesses appropriate future technologies for AR products, internally and externally; works closely with facilities engineering, process engineering, and customers to evaluate, install, and validate new equipment
  • Effectively manages the Chem Ops department's workforce including but not limited to assuring up-to-date position descriptions, establishment and auditing of performance expectations, annual reviews, career planning, individual development plans, and training
  • Participates as needed in commercial, developmental and prospective customer interactions including but not limited to audits
  • Conducts all aspects of position in a professional, respectful manner consistent with AR Guiding Principles and the Corporate Quality Policy; embraces & champions 6S LEAN culture; organizes personnel workspace and appearance consistent with corporate professional image


Additional Responsibilities:
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Periodic travel to customers, suppliers, or sister companies


Job Specifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering or related field
  • Requires a minimum of 3-5 years of manufacturing experience in a management or supervisory role, preferably in chemical operations/mixing and finishing technologies, including web processing
  • Strong leadership, influencing, interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills
  • Strong problem solving skills to resolve equipment, component, scheduling, quality, safety, and personnel issues and concerns
  • Relevant computer systems proficiency in a manufacturing environment as well as with standard desktop computer software applications
  • Trained, experienced and proficient in application of statistical methodology in problem solving and process control optimization
  • Trained and experienced in operational practices and systems with relevant certifications (e.g. APICS, LEAN, Six-Sigma,etc.)
