Job SummaryThe Manufacturing Engineer supports and improves steel manufacturing operations, driving operational excellence through the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes and systems. Increasing throughput, reducing cost and waste, and improving safety and quality. This role partners closely with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and EHS teams to ensure stable, efficient, and repeatable manufacturing processes.
Key ResponsibilitiesProcess & Production Support- Provide day-to-day engineering support for production issues, downtime events, and yield losses.
- Lead efforts to analyze and improve manufacturing processes, focusing on cost reduction, cycle time, quality enhancement, and throughput.
- Collaborate with R&D and design engineering to influence product designs for manufacturability and scalability.
- Develop and validate manufacturing processes for new products, including tooling, equipment, and work instructions.
- Manage complex manufacturing projects, including equipment upgrades and layout changes.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of process documentation, SOPs, and technical specifications.
- Provide training on new processes, equipment, and safety protocols.
- Act as a technical resource for troubleshooting and problem-solving across production teams.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions to address recurring issues and improve process reliability.
Continuous Improvement- Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and root cause analysis tools
- Identify and implement cost reduction, yield improvement, and cycle time reduction opportunities.
- Drive scrap, rework, and energy consumption reduction initiatives.
Quality & Compliance- Ensure processes meet customer specifications, internal quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Support corrective actions for customer complaints, internal nonconformances, and audit findings.
Safety & EHS- Promote and support a strong safety culture in a high-risk industrial environment.
- Ensure manufacturing processes comply with plant safety procedures and environmental regulations.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical/Materials Engineering, or related field preferred.
- 3-7 years of experience in a manufacturing or steel production environment.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Experience with process data analysis, SPC, and continuous improvement methods.
- Ability to work effectively on the plant floor in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment.
Preferred Qualifications- Lean Six Sigma certification.
- Experience with MRP/ERP systems and manufacturing data systems (MES).
- Project management experience supporting capital or process improvement projects.
